Homelessness can happen to ANYONE - in fact, it's happening to more households and individuals each year. This is why HomeAid works to end homelessness: to break this dangerous cycle and uplift our neighbors in need. The Orange County Point-in-Time Count is a major event that collects data on the number of people experiencing homelessness on any given night. The 2024 Point-in-Time Count recorded 7,322 people experiencing homelessness, a 28% increase from the last count in 2022. Help HomeAid bring this number down to ZERO.

Today, we mark World Homelessness Day. At BeyondHousing, we've provided support to over 3,000 individuals who either faced homelessness or were at risk of it in the Ovens Murray and Goulburn regions during the past financial year. Homelessness affects many individuals and households in our community and no two stories are the same. Join us today in raising awareness about the causes of homelessness and share this message: 👉 The top three reasons for homelessness in our society are due to a housing crisis, family violence and housing affordability stress. 👉 Many people who experience homelessness have multiple and complex needs. 👉 Increasingly younger and older Australians are facing life without a safe, stable home. 👉There’s increased demand for homelessness services. 👉 Housing ends homelessness. We need more social and affordable housing to help people who are vulnerable in our communities. #WorldHomelessnesDay #EndHomelessness #EndYouthHomelessness #HomeNotHomeless #CommunityHousing #RegionalVictoria #BeyondHousing

In the last decade, homelessness has surged by a staggering 54%. Let that sink in. For many, Christmas is a season of joy and celebrations but it's crucial to acknowledge that not everyone shares these views. For the homeless, this season is exceptionally tough. This Christmas, as we gather with loved ones, let's remember that the gift of a home is the most cherished present. It is important to recognise the vital role housing associations can play in helping to build foundations for more secure futures whilst gradually addressing homelessness. Working within Housing Associations is a powerful way to make a difference, transform lives and help provide stability. If you feel driven to make an impact, consider exploring roles in Housing Associations. Homelessness can be categorised into three main types: chronic, episodic and transitional. 🏚️🔄🏡 Chronic Homelessness: Refers to individuals who have been homeless for an extended period, often coupled with a disabling condition. ⏳🤕 Episodic Homelessness: Involves individuals who frequently oscillate in and out of homelessness, making stability elusive. 🔄🆙🆘 Transitional Homelessness: This is typically short-term and occurs when someone loses their housing and temporarily ends up in a shelter before moving on to permanent housing. ⏱️🛌🏠 Understanding these categories is crucial for effectively addressing the issue and providing targeted support. 🎯 Are there different types of homelessness? Watch to find out more and follow us to learn more about how HOME 🏠 works in the community to support people out of homelessness for good and help to identify and prevent new cases of homelessness.

Homelessness is not a lifestyle choice, and we cannot blame those in need for their circumstances. It's crucial to address this issue with empathy and effective solutions. Today, Centrepoint reveals alarming statistics - nearly 136,000 young people sought help from their local authority last year, marking a 5% increase from the previous year, and the highest number ever recorded. What's even more distressing is that only 33% of these young people had their homelessness prevented or relieved when they asked for support. This means that not only are more young people experiencing homelessness than ever, but even fewer are receiving the help they desperately need. And let's not forget the countless others who are hidden homeless, not even making it to their local councils for assistance. 136,000 young people have already been let down. We must urgently ask ourselves: How many more will this government continue to fail? It's time to take action, raise awareness, and work together to address this crisis.

A 2021 study on single homelessness from Crisis showed that 48% of adults first experienced homelessness when under the age of 21. Yesterday the Government released the latest street count from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and tragically it showed rough sleeping was up 27% in a single year - a number that sadly matches the rise in demand we have seen at New Horizon Youth Centre. The rise comes despite investing £2billion on ending rough sleeping this term and despite the Government’s own data also showing 48% of rough sleepers first doing so before the age of 25. If we are serious about ending homelessness then we first have to get serious about ending youth homelessness and if we are aerious about ending youth homelessness then we need a #PlanForThe136k https://lnkd.in/daFRmDde

Homelessness is a big issue affecting hundreds of thousands of people across the UK and, in recent times, the numbers have only been increasing in 2024. Our Chief Executive, Donna Cezair, shares her views on homelessness and rough sleeping. #worthinghomes #homelessnessuk #insidehousing #ukhousing #roughsleeping #housingcrisis https://lnkd.in/eikywN4G
Our politicians have the ability to solve rough sleeping, but they’re choosing to criminalise it instead

Reflecting on our annual report, it's clear: numbers only scratch the surface of the homelessness crisis. While we housed hundreds last year, homelessness remains a fluid experience with many teetering on the edge daily. It's not just about housing those currently experiencing homelessness; we must also focus on preventing new entries into homelessness. This requires a shift from counting heads to understanding the complex factors at play. Let's use these numbers as a catalyst for change and work together to create a more equitable world.

Youth Homelessness is a complex issue - and it's not just a housing problem. Youth homelessness is so much more than not having somewhere to sleep. Young homeless people usually have complex needs and need to be supported with more than just accommodation to move on from homelessness. We believe that the only way to end homelessness is to start by ending youth homelessness. That's because many people who are sleeping on the streets today were homeless when they were younger as well. We have to step in early and support the homeless young people of today to prevent them from becoming the homeless people of tomorrow.
