Understanding The Mind-Blowing $250,000,000 Joe Rogan – Spotify Deal I've been going over it in my head and I think the deal Rogan made with Spotify is even bigger for Spotify than we imagined. Was this the plan the entire time? Build up Spotify with an exclusive deal, raise the stock, then maybe sink the stocks with bad press and then resign Rogan while unleashing him on other platforms? Meanwhile, the stocks are now going up and Spotify makes BANK by collecting revenue from all the platforms Joe will be on. Here's my take on understanding The Joe Rogan - Spotify deal...

If you’re anything like us (which, if you’re reading this, you definitely are!), then you’ve been noticing a difference in episodic consumption rates between Apple and Spotify. Mainly, when you’re digging into your stats, you’re finding that your Spotify consumption rates look different than your Apple consumption rates (i.e. they might be 10-15% lower in general, etc). This can seem quite alarming, and we have received a ton of questions from clients and colleagues alike wondering why this is happening. Do listeners on one platform like you better than the other? Could the slight variations in listeners on each platform play a significant role? Is your show banned to the shadow realm and doomed to fail before it even started?! We can’t definitively rule out these theories (except for the shadow realm). But what if I told you the most likely answer is much, much simpler? Turns out, Apple and Spotify calculate their consumption rates in different ways. They are not the same calculation—therefore, they are almost always going to look different.

It costs money to make good content, actually.... Spotify CEO Daniel Ek sparked controversy by suggesting the cost of creating content is "close to zero," implying most of it becomes obsolete quickly. While Daniel Ek later clarified his point about the proliferation of content due to cheaper equipment, creators highlighted the significant investments in education, gear, and time to produce high-quality work. This debate underscores ongoing concerns about insufficient compensation in the digital age. #ContentCreation #DigitalEconomy #FCA Andre Fonseca For more details, read the full discussion on the topic. https://lnkd.in/gS4A3xnR

🔔 ROGAN/SPOTIFY $250mil PARTNERSHIP EXTENSION 🔔 This is a massive deal that reflects an evolving landscape of digital media, Spotify has sealed a partnership extension with Joe Rogan, estimated at $250mil over multiple years, marking a monumental moment for the JRE podcast and the broader podcasting industry. This new agreement allows Rogan to expand his audience reach through broader distribution across various platforms, including YouTube. Unlike the previous arrangement where Spotify held exclusive uploading rights, this deal opens up avenues for wider distribution of JRE content. Spotify will manage the external distribution and advertising on behalf of Rogan which is huge. Check the Youtube clip views. It’s very simple why the show is perennially the most popular podcast in the world. Rogan's appeal is his dedication to fostering candid and diverse conversations. His belief that such discussions enrich people's lives and encourage similar exchanges among friends underscores the show's enduring relevance and cultural impact. Spotify's acknowledgement of JRE's status as the most-listened-to podcast underscores Rogan's influence and the resonance of his content. They even created a special music playlist, the “Green Room," to celebrate the partnership and create a more immersive experience for his fans. What we know is that last year saw massive losses for Spotify with high-profile shows being cancelled for underperformance. Shows like Meghan Markle's and Kim Kardashian's got axed due to low numbers and massive £20mil production deals. Even Obama's podcast had to redo its deal. Spotify's had its ups and downs, but this Rogan move seems to be a winner, especially judging by the stock surge. The positive response, as evidenced by the increase in Spotify's stock value following the announcement, highlights the market's confidence in the potential of this partnership to drive growth and innovation in the streaming service sector. The collaboration between Rogan and Spotify aligns with a broader strategy to diversify their content offerings and maximise audience engagement. By reworking its deals with various shows and relinquishing exclusivity stipulations, Spotify is looking to enhance its competitive edge and capitalise on the lucrative podcasting market. The journey of JRE from its inception to its current status as a cultural phenomenon reflects Rogan's unwavering commitment to authenticity and intellectual exploration. As a longtime fan of the show, witnessing its evolution and impact has been incredible to watch. https://lnkd.in/eFkKZkCw

Why Small Companies Shouldn't Fear Big Competitors: A Lesson from Spotify CEO In 2015, Spotify founder Daniel Ek explained why he wasn’t worried about competing with tech giants like Google and Apple in music streaming. Small companies have a superpower: Hyperfocus. "Apple and Google do this and 10,000 other things. We’re specialized. We don’t do anything other than our own service. This is all I do every day. We think with that focus and the thousands - if not millions of hours - that we put into creating [our] experience, we will win." Ek's strategy has clearly paid off. At the time of the interview, Spotify was valued at $8B. Today, it’s worth over $60B. In the Telco industry, big companies juggle many services. However, smaller companies can outmaneuver them by focusing on niche areas, innovating faster, and delivering superior solutions.
