It's the time of year when many firms make partnership promotions. To those who made it this year: Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off and you should be proud. When firms make these announcements, many do graphics that go along with the promotions and send out announcements detailing what practice areas and cities the newly elevated partners work in. (I personally always cringe if I see firms telling on themselves with a graphic of all white dudes but hey, no one asked my opinion). Aside from being able to celebrate the success of peers, why are these announcement particularly useful for associates? Because if you're at a firm and seeing a lack of people *like you* being elevated (whether that be practice area, geographic location, race, sex, or any other identifying characteristic) it might be time to rethink where you are spending your prime associate years. When firms tell you who has historically made partner, you should be listening and considering that as you chart out your career. It's either that or turn around 7-8 years down the road and wonder why you've been passed over. #lawfirmpartnership #partner #lawfirm

How far #lawfirms have come in the recruitment, retention and progression of colleagues from diverse backgrounds is the subject of much debate. And so it should be. The good news, as our latest report has found, is that the picture of ethnic minority representation in law firms is changing. There is, of course, room for improvement, so the report identifies tools to help and offers five key recommendations to help drive ethnic diversity within and across the #legal sector.
