Leading Regional Operations Workplaces by Connecting People, Crafting Tools and Processes. Advocating for Allyship and Inclusion. Architect and Facilities Management Practitioner.
Perkins&Will has released a #Neurodiversity Toolkit that allow architects, designers, and companies to apply essential principals to allow inclusiveness in the workplaces and other spaces where humans co-habit, highlighting the importance of meanings of #neurodivergence spectrum and neurodiversity ecosystems. I as an architect, and a day-to-day practitioner as an operator in the #IntegratedFacilitiesManagement field, advocate for #DEI, found we are very behind in response to the necessities and accommodations required for individuals and communities that identified neurodivergent. The toolkit encourages the applicability of a process that look the inclusion during the planning and conversation with end users, recognizing their needs, inputs and outcomes, and including a holistic team to keep the evolution of this topic, to train HR, Facility Managers and EHS Operators, leaders and Workplace Experience Champions and to maintain and update operational strategies. The recommendation is to build environments and create experiences on a circular process that involve: 🧠 Sensory Wellness: acoustic, visual, tactile spaces and taste encounters 🔀 Flexibility and Adaptability: allow accommodation and revisit ideas ⚠ Safety and Security: risks and environmental controls for a safe space ⚖ Social Balance: know your occupant, provide solitude spaces and promote social interactions ✔ Predictability and Clarity: communication, plans and routines. Continue this dialogue will promote to close the gap around #stigma and embrace a truly #neuroinclusion in the #workplace. Is your workplace a neuroinclusive space today ❓ https://lnkd.in/eXvNeQEu

Discover the transformative power of Building Biology, a holistic discipline blending the art of architecture with health and sustainability science. Beyond designing residential spaces, Building Biology revolutionizes work environments, underlining the critical impact office settings have on our well-being. Building Biology emphasizes the importance of indoor air quality, electromagnetic radiation minimization, natural materials, and biophilic design in the workplace. These principles aim to create work environments that boost productivity, happiness, and harmony with nature. Prioritizing non-toxic materials and improved ventilation can significantly enhance office air quality. Reducing EMF exposure and incorporating natural light and clean water systems can invigorate employees, increasing focus and energy. Furthermore, biophilic design not only beautifies workspaces but also fosters our innate connection to nature, demonstrating how intentional design can profoundly benefit our professional and health outcomes. Extending Building Biology to workspaces addresses health concerns linked to poor indoor environments, supports sustainability through eco-friendly materials and practices, and offers financial advantages by reducing healthcare costs and enhancing employee productivity and satisfaction. Designing for inclusion entails making spaces for everyone—inclusive environments in which everyone can live and thrive. The approach of inclusive design prioritizes the consideration of human diversity and the wide range of individual needs. It considers how these needs intersect, offering the opportunity to problem solve, innovate and explore solutions which can benefit a broader cross section of people because their diverse experiences have been included in the design process. The benefits of designing for inclusion include: 🔶 Enabling and drawing on the full range of human diversity. 🔶 Including and learning from people with a range of perspectives. 🔶 Creating a sense of belonging for people in the built environment. 🔶 Designing within a complex adaptive system. 🔶 Designing compassionately with people. 🔶 Balancing our bias, considering the opposite, and embracing a growth mindset. 🔶 Unlearning established conventions of design. As the inclusive design practice of BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd), Human Space can provide guidance on implementing project specific and innovative design strategies to create spaces for all that align with accessibility standards, and promote equity, wellbeing and participation in the built environment.
