Great to see Caitlin Turner, director of Interiors at HOK, share her thoughts on workplace design and the move away from hot desking in Bloomberg News! “Clients don’t want to give employees any excuse not to come in. If you want them to share desks, they say, ‘Why should we?’” With office occupancy still shifting post-pandemic, dedicated desks are seen as a way to make the office more appealing and encourage office attendance. Personalized desks also provide psychological and physical comfort, reducing the hassle of setting up a workspace daily. Breaking the sound barrier: The impact of office noise on the working day JLL’s latest global survey ‘Is hybrid really working?’ found 58% of employees still consider their home environment superior for focused work, while 45% believe it better supports their overall productivity. More than a quarter cited office noise and inability to focus as a reason to work from home. Keeping this in mind, designing offices with a diversity of spaces suitable for different types of work is extraordinarily important in empowering individuals to be productive throughout their day. This can include pods, phone booths and other enclosures, as well as using innovative sound-insulating furnishings and surface sprays, plus technical acoustic solutions such as ceiling baffles and wall cladding, to absorb noise. Hey Alan Carr and Michelle Ogundehin, when are the ‘Interior Design Masters’ going to do an office? 😀 Be a ‘magnet’ into the office, not a ‘mandate’. On my travels, I see a wide range of workplaces and it’s fascinating to see the theory of post-pandemic work environments becoming reality. I visit some stunning buildings - I would want to travel in to work in them, even if it wasn’t the ‘anchor day' or I didn’t have a f2f meeting. These buildings cater for the variety of work interactions (sole quiet work, collaborative groupings, informal socials, inclusive and differentiated spaces) in an attractive environment (the light, the creative layouts, the seating options, the interior design, the sense of belonging). Thanks to Kate Clarke for giving me the school day on the *Leesman Index* and *Certification*: The world’s largest workplace experience database that helps organisations benchmark and link the quality of their workplace to the performance of their people. I like their collaboration with MIT, 'The Hybrid Future', into the global impact of our 21st century rapid shift into hybrid working - on organisations, commerce, humans, city centres, real estate, and essentially what an office is for. Check out their article on the *Eight Core Functions of an Office* – are you effectively catering for all of them? https://lnkd.in/gKVhj2ib

Hushoffice In a hybrid world, the office wears many hats, so to speak. It's a paradise for those who need a place where they can work better than at home. It's an acoustically diverse shelter for different types of tasks. The office also marks the boundary between work and non-work, which helps keep the right balance. And finally, it's a 'hub' where people can meet, socialise, and interact. A modern approach to office space design aims to make a positive impact on employee well-being. An effective office layout takes into account the subtleties and nuances of human psychology, using them to create an environment that inspires people and increases employee productivity and satisfaction levels. If done the right way, it can result in a thriving, stimulating work atmosphere for all. Can something as simple as taking an evening walk or having a succulent on your desk improve productivity? Research across five different countries investigating various workspaces suggests it does! Studies show that even small depictions of nature can give employees a boost. Here are a few ways to incorporate micro-nature into an office environment: 🌼 Display flowers or small plants, either real or artificial, in a shared workspace like a breakroom. 🌊 Set up a sound machine or audio playlist that emulates the sound of flowing water. 🌲 Utilize small decor with natural elements like rocks, wood, or bamboo. 🎨 Add artwork with depictions of nature. What if you work in a hybrid environment or fully in a home office? You can still use micro-nature to improve creativity. 😎 Set up your workspace near a window with natural light. 🌻 Keep a couple of house plants (real or artificial) near your workspace. 🌍 Incorporate earth-tone accents instead of cool-toned colors. 🚶 Take a morning or evening walk in a natural environment before or after work. What workspace changes have you made that have improved your productivity? #Nature #Hybrid #OfficeDesign
