The Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) together with Global Organic Textile Standard gGmbH, and Textile Exchange are pleased to announce the renewal of the international ISO IWA 32:2019 proficiency test for a third year, under technical support from Wageningen Food Safety Research. With this initiative, we aim to provide the sector with an updated overview of global labs that can currently conduct GMO testing per the ISO IWA 32:2019 protocol – a common language among laboratories worldwide to screen for the potential presence of genetically modified (GM) cotton along the organic cotton value chain. In 2023, 27 labs across Europe, Asia, and North America passed the proficiency test. "We are on the exciting journey of creating a new luxury tea brand called "Matelogy", specifically for the European market. Stay tuned for all the news on our journey into the world of tea and e-commerce."
💡 GMO and organic products: Are they compatible? In the world of food, organic farming is in fashion. The aim is to eat healthier and more environmentally friendly products. But what about genetically modified (GMO) products? Can they be organic? Debunking myths: Organic does not mean the same as natural: Organic refers to a growing method that avoids pesticides and synthetic chemical fertilizers, but not necessarily that the product is "natural" in the sense that it has not been genetically modified. GMO is not synonymous with "bad": Genetic modification is a technique that allows the DNA of an organism to be altered to improve its characteristics. Some GMOs are pest resistant, which reduces pesticide use, or have higher nutritional value. The big question: Can GMO and organic go together? The answer is complicated. It depends on the regulations in each country. Some countries completely prohibit the use of GMOs in organic agriculture. In this case, a tomato genetically modified to resist pests, for example, could not be labeled organic, even if it is grown without pesticides. Other countries allow the use of GMOs in organic agriculture, but only under certain conditions and with rigorous evaluation. In this case, some specific GMOs might be approved for use in organic farming, while others might not. How do you know if a GMO product is organic? It is essential to consult the specific regulations of your country or region. In the European Union, for example, GMO products must be labeled as such. You can also look for recognized organic certification seals, which typically indicate whether or not a product contains GMOs. In summary: Organic farming seeks sustainable growing practices without synthetic chemicals. GMO products are those that have been genetically modified. The classification of GMO products in relation to organic agriculture varies depending on the regulations of each country or region. It is important to consult specific regulations and look for certification seals to know if a product is truly organic. Remember: The decision to consume or not consume GMO products is a personal one. It is important to be well informed about the different points of view and make a conscious decision. #gmo #agriculture #bio #organic

FALSE: Organic vegetables are not sprayed with chemicals. That's right, all our produce and food are sprayed even though they are organic. Thinking otherwise is the biggest misconception about organic. The significant point is that when you see 'USDA Organic,' the product has been treated with organic-approved chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides. This means they can't use the world's most prevalent herbicide, called Roundup. And that's a significant issue because Roundup is commonly used on genetically modified corn and soybeans. If it's organic, they can't use it. And they can't use it for the feed for our chickens, pigs, and cows. So, buying organic does matter! Is this going to help you lose weight? Absolutely not, but this is the kind of thing that will make a huge difference down the road as you get older. PS - Chemicals in your body create oxidative stress, which is akin to damaging your cells. Once the cells are damaged, they are unable to perform their primary function of creating and distributing energy to your organs. If you feel like you have low energy, it could be due to a metabolism issue.

Edit…. Additional comment. What if rainforest alliance & non gmo certification vs the organic. I have an interesting question/discussion… How do you feel about Rain Forest Alliance brands? Would you rather organic or rain forest alliance? In this discussion I am referencing the spice industry. I feel the US consumer is more focused on organic but would love to start a discussion! 😁

Please pay attention to this useful post from Ronan Demailly and make sure you follow the guy if you care for the #Health and #Wellbeing of your family or your employees, and also about the #Environment. The bottom line, buying #Organic is totally worth it, as it does not contain (or at least, should not) Roundup. Roundup, primarily composed of the herbicide glyphosate, has been linked to significant HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS. It is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as "PROBABLY CARCINOGENIC to humans," with associations to cancers such as Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Beyond its impact on human health, Roundup poses environmental risks, including reduced biodiversity, disruption of ecosystems, and contamination of water sources. Its widespread use has also led to the emergence of glyphosate-resistant weeds and detrimental effects on soil health, impacting agricultural sustainability. Concerns about glyphosate residues in food raise additional worries about chronic exposure and its cumulative effects on health. What is bad for the environment, is bad for you. #TheSpiritualCorporation #Sustainability #SustainableLiving #Mindfullness #CorporateConciousness

https://lnkd.in/gTJ2i74f Chemical pollutants, such as PCB's are dangerous, we all know that, yet governments continue to allow the use of dangerous pesticides. GMO fruits and vegetables are consistently sprayed with pesticides, which leach into the food and we eat them. How many pesticides have been banned over the years? Yet new ones make it to market and continue the cycle. There are alternatives to chemical pesticides. Natural. Go ask a farmer, they will be happy to explain to you. It takes more thought and planning yet very doable. GMO fruits and vegetables may look pretty and be symmetrical on the outside, yet flavorless and full of chemicals on the inside. Chemicals we cannot taste. Try eating a GMO tomato and a tomato grown without pesticides. The non GMO tomato may not be perfect on the outside, but the taste WOW. It is full of taste and flavor. It is no surprise to hear that as chemicals leach into our waters, ocean life is affected. Governments should ban completely the use of pesticides. Both we and our ocean life will most certainly be healthier. Stop the stupid, useless carbon tax which effectively does nothing in reducing pollution. Ban pesticides, in commercial and home use. That will help us, the environment and our atmosphere.

Organic cotton’s time may have come, as the subtitle of the Organic Cotton Accelerator’s latest report declares, but moving the fiber from a niche product to the status quo isn’t without its hurdles. Thanks, in part, to the rise of organic food, the idea of cotton grown without synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers or GMO seeds now sits comfortably in the mainstream marketplace—Gap sells organic cotton tees. Madewell hawks an organic cotton tank dress. Even Hanes touts organic cotton undies. Even so, the perception of its availability is more generous than the reality: According to the fiber experts at Textile Exchange, certified organic cotton makes up just 1.4 percent of total cotton production.
