For the last six years working as a recruiter and focus on hiring diverse talent in the Norwegian market I have noticed a thing or two. We are seeing: 1. Lack of onboarding and offboarding for employees 2. Limited offerings of tailored Norwegian classes 3. Lack of cultural understanding / awareness from employees side 4. Salary benchmarks 5. Welcome kit with activities, networking events and step by step information on settling to a new country Creating a handbook for new employees transitioning to a new country might be a relatively small investment for the company, yet it will mean everything for the candidate. By offering comprehensive information, local insights, and practical resources, the company not only supports a smoother transition but they contribute to fostering a positive experience for their new employees. #candidatejourney

As HR Business Partner I supported internationals during their first months of employment at Dutch companies. I helped them navigate through practical arrangements, like 30%-tax-regulation. My survey among internationals in the Netherlands confirms that most look for information on practical arrangements (82%) and housing (68%). The most fun part though is to share thoughts with them on how we can help the next person who is joining. What information can we share? What should they know first? 1 out of 3 internationals also look for information on a Dutch language course (37%) and Dutch working culture (34%). Sweden: Report Published on How New International Recruitment Units Will Improve Work Permit Process November 28, 2023 The Swedish government has published a report on its plans to implement new International Recruitment Units to improve the work permit application process. Key topics covered in the report include: a new tiered application category system based on the applicant’s profession and educational background, instead of the current Fast Track scheme; elimination of the Fast Track scheme due to its inefficiency; and Update – November 28, 2023: Companies must have been registered in Sweden for at least 12 months for their employees to be eligible for Category A processing. The policies are likely to enter into force by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
