Investing in the future, one student at a time. ✨
HITT externs jumped right into the exciting world of construction management. 🏗️
This week, we hosted our annual summer externship for high school students eager to explore the business and construction worlds. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors had the opportunity to work hands-on in a business setting. They started building their professional networks, met with leadership from various departments to learn more about their roles, and attended professional development classes and training sessions at our headquarters in Washington, DC.
We're proud to continue this tradition and provide invaluable experiences to these future leaders.

On behalf of our entire team at Mentor Connect, I wanted to express our gratitude to Bobby Hulme-Lippert for speaking on our behalf at the Leadership Conference, City of Austin on June 21st, 2024.
Your presentation, “Bring Your Dance Moves: How Leaders Cultivate Belonging,” was profoundly impactful. Your explanation of how everyone has unique and important gifts to offer, and how these gifts are best shared when we feel a sense of belonging, resonated deeply with us.
We were particularly inspired by your explanation on how leaders can cultivate belonging:
1. Use Improv Comedy’s “Yes, and” as a Leadership Approach – Building from the input, perspective, and strengths of others.
2. Share Stories – Providing outlets for team members to appreciate each other’s stories, even short conversational prompts can quickly build a deeper connection.
3. Practice Gratitude – Offering team members specific, personalized expressions of gratitude and recognition for their work.
These approaches are especially beneficial for high school students as we navigate formative years, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances our personal and academic growth.
Mentor Connect is truly grateful for your partnership.

As part of Excelsior University's celebration of Second Chance Month, yesterday the Center for Social Justice and the Civic Engagement Rope Team had the privilege of hosting Trent Griffin-Braaf, who shared his powerful journey with us in his keynote: 'From Felon to Forbes'. Below are a few highlights of his paradigm-shifting presentation:
- The value of family and intentional connection.
- The importance of focusing on our health and wellness, regardless of our circumstances.
- The relevance of focusing on our personal and professional development.
- The power of becoming a forever learner, to learn as much as possible in all situations.
- Nothing lasts forever, so put your best step forward every day and focus on learning and preparing for next steps.
- Never stop looking for opportunities and pivot as needed.
- Remember that an arrow needs to be pulled back before it goes forward.
- Focus on identifying needs and pursuing service, leadership, and workforce development opportunities.
- Find ways of helping others identify and pursue their goals.
- The power of empathy as part of a successful organization and of helping others to do better.
- The importance of community engagement and of giving back.
Thank you for sharing your leadership, partnership, and story with us, Trent!
Today kicks off my favorite month of the year - Principal Appreciation Month! It is no doubt that one of the most complex and challenging seat is that of the Principal. While that is true it is also one of the most rewarding, to see the impact you have on your leaders, staff and students knowing that your influence has changed the trajectory is humbling and inspiring. This world is not set up for our students to excel and earn a seat at the tables where profound decisions are made. Each day when you wake up to take your seat as Principal, you carve away at the systemic inequities to one day make that a myth of times past! You selflessly give of your time, talent and treasure to shift a system of oppression to a system of opportinity. It is not easy but you are seen, supported and appreciated. No two days is alike which is both exciting and unnerving all at the same time. Each of you demonstrate the agility, fortitude and commitment to doing the hard work in the name of children! While it is cliches, Whitney said it best “we believe the children are our future” and on your worst day you are still the best impact on a positive future! Thank you for your leadership and we celebrate YOU! YES Prep Public SchoolsHouston ISD#thankaPrincipal#PrincipalAppreciation#bethechange

Last week I completed the IRTS Foundation summer 2023 fellowship. For two months we had the privilege of talking with over 50 agencies and brands in the entertainment and media industry. We got to speak with current leaders in these spaces and learn about the future of the industry. And of course I got to make 40 life long friends. to all of you I am proud and excited to see where you will take these amazing leadership skills and knowledge we have gained. You guys have me no matter what I got to learn so much from everyone different perspective and that is the beauty of diverse environments. I look forward to our futures. A few things I learned this past summer;
1. You have nothing to prove only to share.
2. This industry is changing fast, but it always has, so embracing innovative ways to better the industry is vital for growth and success.
3. Always be curious.
4. Ask questions wherever you go, asking questions is vital to understanding different perspectives.
5. DEI is a driver for me and if this industry wants to succeed in the incoming years we need to be the faces in those rooms. All perspectives matter and deserve a seat at the table .
Overall, this has been a life changing experience I feel well prepared to come into the workforce after I finish my last year University of Florida. If the future of this industry is us then I know we have the right tools and people to succeed.
