AI and procedural generation are and always will be just another tool to help developers make their vision come to life quicker, cheaper or with less crunch. It still requires skilled talent to build and operate and use as a foundation to create something marvelous.

🚨2024 has already seen critically acclaimed titles in a plethora of genres. Here are the top 20 video game titles ranked by average review score so far for this year. Of the 20 titles mentioned SEGA and Sony are equal in number of entries. Indie title Balatro made an impressive impact in performance with developer Playstack earning a respectable 5th place. Got emotional watching this trailer: https://lnkd.in/gRQENU3b I'm never sure if the nostalgia I feel about games is because games felt different as a kid or because games *were* different as a kid. Or because the world was different when I was a kid. Maybe all of the above. Games have the limitless ability to create emotions, memories, intrigue, and fun. I felt the way the kids in this commercial felt when I first played Final Fantasy 7 and Mario 64. Games are magic, and they still are. And that's why I love what I do and feel honored to be able to talk to the people who are doing the work. To my game developer/artist friends: I know times have been tough. It's not an easy industry to be in, and sometimes the rewards don't feel worth it. But for anyone who is still out there fighting the good fight: we appreciate you, and what you do is important. For those who leave the gaming industry because of the uncertainty--that's valid too. The spirit of creativity that drives the people who want to work in games can also extend to other industries.
