Fenway Park was the biggest challenge we've ever had as an organization. Before the game, we had our Fans First chat with over 200 plus employees, players and cast members and I shared with the team how we could be our best in the moment. From Day 1, I've always believed in focusing on the fans first. But when facing real adversity, we often need more than just that mindset as our north star. We need to know how to put the fan first. What I've learned is that the greatest performers know how to slow things down. When things speed up, they can focus even better on what's in front of them in that moment. I shared how while we would have the most eyes on us we've ever had, it was the eyes right in front of us that mattered most. My goal was for everyone to take the extra time with fans, embrace the moments and truly be present. If we did that and focused on one fan at a time, everything else would take care of itself. After the game, I was truly proud of everyone on our team. I heard countless fans first stories and moments shared by our group and by fans all over social media. With every challenge, we get better and learn more. But who we are, what we stand for and the heart of this organization will never change.

I can't express strongly enough how important Jesse Cole's mantra of Fans First should be incorporated in how we interact with donors and how admissions should interact with prospective students and families in the private educational sector. You may have the best glossy brochures or produced videos, but they all fall short on the personal interactions you have with your donors and families. These interactions are game changers. They are the difference between getting a gift or having a student enroll in your school. The student ambassador who connects with a child during a visit to campus or taking the time to have coffee with a new parent and sharing personally the incredible impact giving has on your school - moves mountains. If you haven't taken a moment to check out Fans First or check out the Savanah Bananas - you should make it your summer reading. It's a game changer.

Incredible video from Jesse Cole from the Savannah Bananas at Fenway Park talking about seizing the opportunity, slowing things down and giving the fans their moment! Although this is about baseball and showmanship, I cannot help but relate to how this simple theory of slowing down, being in the moment and personalizing the moment matters in healthcare. And as we embark on the new Medicare GUIDE model for Alzheimer's and dementia care, the aspect of personalizing care and slowing down will become even more important. At PocketRN, we believe that nurse lead care is the key to driving ongoing, sustainable outcomes because nurses are the changemaker's, the empathetic people who relate, listen and care. Nurses personalize care delivery by focusing on things that matter to the patient. The things that a patient can relate to, and the needed motivation patients and their caregivers need to be involved! So, even though this video is about baseball, it is also about slowing down and being impactful! Have you ever encountered a Red Door? Last weekend I visited Savannah, GA and what a cool city it is. It was an Oktoberfest weekend, and I had a great time, while sporting my Alabama T-shirt in South Georgia. I had fun sitting with a bunch of Georgia fans at one of the local sports bars, while watching college football, and discussing life. While strolling around in one those beautiful neighborhoods seeing how “the rich people live”, I came across this red door and it caught my attention. This well-kept red door, on this older building with the numbers 340 on it, stood out among all of those fancy homes, where the rich people live. They live well. While driving home, I begin to think about the significance of the “red door” and why it caught my attention. See, red doors can represent a lot of things and have throughout history, like “opportunity”, and the list goes on and on. You can Google that one. Have you ever walked down a long hallway and all of the doors are closed? Not one of those “doors” were open. Have you ever walked down a hallway that had all one colored doors except for one “Red Door”? Which door did you notice? Life is a lot like a hallway, with a series of doors. We walk down it, knock on some, some open and some don’t. We walk through some and pass on others. Some are locked, some are not. But then, there are the “Red Doors”, those special doors that opened that one opportunity that changed your career or life, and it was opened for you, by someone else. Leadership can be like a doorway! All of us in leadership can have the ability to be someone’s “Red Door” at different points in our career and life. You never know when you might be that one opportunity that colleague, direct report, new hire, or young person just starting out in life, just might need at that moment, in their life. Could you be someone's Red Door? Yes, that’s deep and we could camp out here for a minute, but we’ll leave that for another time. So, remember, motivate someone in a positive way today, knock on doors, be that “Red Door”, paint it, if you have to, and watch out for dragons. #bestlife50
