Congratulations to our U.S. CEO and soon to be Burson U.S. CEO, Craig Buchholz, on being recognized as part of PRWeek’s Pride in PR 2024 list honoring LGBTQ communications professionals. Sharing his advice on how colleagues can be true allies all year round: “The real need is for all of us to look for ways to be supportive in small, everyday moments throughout the year. Be curious and ask your colleagues in any community — LGBTQIA and otherwise — what support during the year might look like for them. Imagine a world where we are all less focused on showing up when the calendar tells us, and more focused on showing up when the community needs us.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gvJEnbfF #PrideInPR #PrideMonth #HKProud

Our next Pillar of Inclusion is…🥁 📣 Marketing and Messaging! 📣 So you’ve gotten clear on your inclusive culture and dived deep into your values and you’ve started to build your knowledge and confidence… You’ve begun to talk openly about these things, and have started to create a perception of safety for marginalised and minority groups in your work. But now it is essential that you start shouting about what you do and what you believe and stand for (as well as what you won’t stand for) when it comes to inclusion. You want people to know you’re an actively inclusive ally who really does care about those you work with. You want to build your reputation! 📣 A key part of this is nailing your marketing! 📣 You need to be clear and consistent in your messaging, incorporating inclusive language. This lets people know they’re welcome in your spaces and signals that they’ll be supported in the work you do together. This is vital for your biz to grow! I’ve worked with tonnes of organisations and high profile events to help them spread the word and share what and how they’re actively inclusive. I’ve loved watching their reach and reputation sky rocket! Want to know how I can help you do it too? Drop a 📣 in the comments below I’ll DM you!

When we talk about confidence, it's not one-size-fits-all; it's about acknowledging the diverse layers that make each person who they are. 🤝🌈 Race, gender, sexuality – they all intersect, shaping our experiences and influencing how we perceive ourselves. 🌍👩🏽🤝👨🏻 It's crucial to understand the varied challenges people face and the different STRENGTHS they bring to the table. 🤔💪 Building confidence means creating a space where everyone's story is not just heard but celebrated. 🎉📣 So, let's embrace the BEAUTY of our differences and lift each other up on this journey to confidence and self-love. 💖🚀 #ConfidenceForAll #EmbraceDiversity IT’S TIME TO UNLEASH YOUR POTENTIAL SCHEDULE YOUR “BREAKTHROUGH TO PURPOSE” STRATEGY SESSION TODAY

#LearningSunday #CIPR The PR Playbook: Navigating Trans Inclusivity I spent this Sunday morning reading "The PR Playbook: Navigating Trans Inclusivity" booklet. The booklet offers communication professionals knowledge and tools to communicate respectfully, demonstrate genuine interest, and show commitment to diversity. It emphasizes that when developing campaigns geared towards supporting trans individuals, communication professionals and organizations need to understand the following key points: · Why the campaign matters to their organisation · How to ensure the campaign resonates with the community · What opposition they might face · What steps they need to take, to mitigate any risk More often than note, gender diversity campaigns attract backlash. It is therefore important to plan. To effectively plan, communication professional and organisations need to consider that: 1. Interrogate why your organization is the right one to support this community. 2. Lead with your organisation values 3. Step 3: Conduct a risk assessment and prepare for any potential backlash from the beginning. 4. Protect your trans team members from backlash. They may be targeted directly or indirectly. 5. Bring the entire team along: Educate them on the importance of this topic to the organization. 6. Remember this campaign was conceived because inclusivity matters to you, your organization, and your client. When the backlash comes, double down. 7. Be mindful of the language and imagery used in your campaign to avoid unnecessary criticism. Most importantly communication professionals need to use this checklist to ensure that you are on the right track. · Does the team have a basic understanding of what it means to be gender diverse? · Have you consulted with experts when conceiving the campaign? · Has your team bought into why this is important to your organisation? · What about language? Are you familiar with the lexicon? Are you aware of the key dog whistles you need to be aware of? · Who are the key influencers that will positively impact your campaign? How can you get them onboard? · Who are the key antagonists that will likely oppose your campaign? What's your plan of action should they respond? · What does your company’s trans inclusion and awareness strategy look like beyond this campaign? Do you understand the business case for inclusivity? · Have you studied examples of brands who have done it right? I found this booklet insightful and would recommend it to any communication professional. It provides practical insights to improve job performance. What do you stand for? Everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination. Some much more than others. And even if we’re not directly affected, we can still unite with compassion and support. Dubbed a ‘purposeful pop leader’ Katy Perry is a campaigner for good, and a committed political activist. Let’s infuse some of that sassy flair into workplace allyship, with a few thoughts on how colleagues can support the rights of minorities and marginalised groups… 💥 Roar! Speak up and use your voice to be an upstander, by seeing things that are wrong and acting on them. 💥 Unconditionally support your coworkers with empathy and without judgment. 💥 Encourage others to Rise, amplify their voices by inviting them to be part of inclusion initiatives and relevant discussions and attend decision-making meetings. 💥 Be Wide Awake and actively listen with curiosity when people talk about their challenges and share their lived experiences. Use inclusive language when you respond. 💥 Choose Your Battles but make them count, by calling out inappropriate behaviour like microaggressions or banter. 💥 Get Chained to the Rhythm and build long term trust by being consistent with your allyship and continuing to push for positive change. Prove that you’re a valuable ally by setting off Fireworks that enable others to shine and embodying these themes to create a workplace environment that's safe, welcoming and supportive for everyone. #Communication #InternalCommunication #Inclusivity #Allyship #Learning #Belonging #EDI #Culture #KatyPerry 🎸💥🎶 ………………………… Alive With Ideas is a full service communications agency fuelled by creative ideas.
