“With all the mediums available today, you need a big idea, a story idea, more than ever,” 📚 ⬇️ Reading the drums article reporting yesterday on BBDO’s David Lubars hanging up his gloves after 600 Lions, and again it’s echoing the same thoughts on brand story telling I’d recently read in Greg Hoffmans book, chiefly how it’s the storytelling that creates the emotion that makes marketing so memorable… - “Sometimes reality is too complex. Stories give it form. If you look at human history … everybody responds to a story well-told that has compelling characters, that has a plot you can relate to” - “There’s so many bits … so if you don't have something holding it [together] – a big idea – it just scatters, and it’s a bunch of unrelated [pieces] … and people don't understand what you’re about.” I love the tech and data side of marketing, it’s the route I came in from, and the execution is an important skill, but again reading this is a reminder that for brands to really connect with audiences content is king, and in doing that… the only marketing we will remember is that which made us feel. But it’s not just about a big idea. To create content that grabs attention, speaks to your audience, and delivers results, focus on these three things: 1) Entertain. Make people feel something. 2) Know your market. Truly understand who you’re speaking to. 3) Balance Brand and Performance.
