Lots of exciting developments coming through following pharmacy technicians being added to the list of professionals able to operate under a PGD. We have already seen the profession being added to the flu vaccine PGD nationally and many organisations at local levels beginning to amend their in-house PGDs for delivery by pharmacy technicians. Four key points for pharmacy technicians and employers to start thinking about to prepare for the future: 1. CPPE have developed an online training course which is fully funded by NHSE for pharmacy technicians to begin preparing to operate under a PGD. The training and details of how to access can be found here: Pharmacy technicians: using patient group directions in practice https://lnkd.in/eWrWGvsY 2. Remember that the PGD documents themselves will detail which professionals can operate under the document and the training required to do so, and so whilst each PGD will differ, the training above provides a good foundation and introduction to prepare for this. 3. Members of the Kent & Medway Pharmacy Technician Network receive a weekly bulletin summarising all key updates from the week such as these training opportunities, local job vacancies, upcoming network meetings and opportunities to be involved- sign up via messaging me to avoid missing these. It is a hugely exciting time for the pharmacy technician profession to play an increased role in service provision for patients, increasing system capacity and making it easier for patients to access the services that they need. This of course relies on pharmacy technicians and employers understanding the changes and how they can get involved and help us maximise the local impact across Kent & Medway.
