Just Do It. Nike just released its "Social and Community Impact Grantmaking Guide," an open source playbook on participatory grantmaking and the role corporations can play in tackling inequality and building inclusive communities. As a grantmaker in the sports/outdoor space at Outride and Specialized Bicycle Components, I will be stealing A LOT from this thoughtful resource. Here are some of my high-level takeaways. ⚡ Social and community impact(SCI) is good for business. ⚡ SCI starts with youth and empowering adults to create the right conditions for youth to thrive in their communities. ⚡ Companies should take SCI as seriously as their core products and services, building out the same robust, thoughtful support for community organizations and grantees as paying customers. ⚡ The check is the first thing, but impact is sustained by ongoing non-monetary support. In the same way that Nike aims to become a "world class" grantmaker, I hope to integrate some (all?) of the learnings from this guide into the great system for community investments we're already building at Outride and Specialized Bicycle Components. Go check out the full guide!

There is still time to get SF Muni holiday merch at the Market Street Railway store on Steuart St near the Ferry Building or online at https://lnkd.in/gZ4NycfE Alas, https://transit.supply/ is on break, and San Francisco City Football Club can't keep their Muni jerseys in stock https://sfcityfc.com/store My role model for my job is Curtis Green, including his remarkable partnership with Welton Flynn and Walter Landor. Together, they reinvented Muni for a modern, integrated era. Landor created not only the Muni "worm" logo, but also agency-wide design standards that honored the pride of our workforce and meaningfulness of their work. The Muni logo is one of the most recognizable transit brands in the world. Like my predecessors, I've worked to protect it. It is not for sale. But it is deeply meaningful to San Franciscans. Muni, after all, is the last great place in the city where we all come together. Like the city itself, Muni is imperfect, and yet we all believe in its promise, and will fight to help it fulfill its potential. So we've started a pilot licensing deal with the scrappy, non-profit, hyper-local San Francisco Football Club. They play at Kezar, on the 6, 7, 33, 43 and N lines. It's clear that we cannot use bake sales or a merch store to close our $300M annual operating deficit. But we might be able to use our logo in partnership with nonprofit and uniquely SF programs to reinforce with voters why we must continue to invest in the world's oldest large-city, municipally-owned transit system. Muni not only welcomes everyone, but in an era of rapidly advancing mobility technology remains the tech that allows us to move the most people through our streets, with the lowest GHGs, and for the people with the fewest choices. https://lnkd.in/g7cUprRD

Two years ago, we had the privilege of working with Christopher Capstick from Civilmart to create a video showcasing their support for the Longwood Football and Netball Club in rural Victoria. What started as a project to highlight CivilMart's community engagement quickly revealed the club's profound impact on the local community. When we arrived in Longwood, we were struck by the beautiful surroundings and the warmth of the locals. The club is more than just a place for sport; it's the heart of the community. It provides a safe and constructive environment for young people, a social hub for adults, and a source of pride for everyone involved. As one local aptly put it, "If Longwood lost its club, it really loses its identity." The video we created captured the essence of this remarkable community and the gratitude they feel towards their sponsors, including CivilMart. It also showcased the club's incredible journey, rebuilding from scratch and thriving with the support of dedicated individuals and sponsors. More importantly, the video has helped the football club secure additional sponsorships from businesses that are now proudly supporting them. It’s a testament to what a community can achieve when supported by dedicated partners. This project is a perfect example of how our strategic approach to video production can create win-win outcomes. By finding the right angles, we highlighted CivilMart’s community engagement and helped the Longwood Football and Netball Club attract more sponsors and support. We invite you to watch this film and experience for yourself the incredible spirit of the Longwood Football and Netball Club. It’s a moving story that may even bring a tear to your eye and a powerful example of community and corporate partnership. If you’re looking to make a real impact and showcase the heart of your business, let’s create something extraordinary together. #CommunityEngagement #RuralVictoria #CivilMart #CommunitySupport #VideoProduction #StrategicStorytelling

Let's talk about #NIL ba-by...let's talk about you and me....let's talk about all the good things, and the bad things...let's talk about NIL: The game has changed with the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and creative options for its use abound. Take the University of Tennessee and its collective, for example. They turned the College World Series Jell-O Shot Challenge into a brilliant NIL opportunity for their players. This move not only gave the athletes a chance to earn but also boosted the school's visibility. For businesses and athletes looking to dive into NIL partnerships, here are some key things to keep in mind: Clear Agreements: Make sure the contract spells out everything—what's expected from both sides, how much the athlete will get paid, and how long the partnership lasts. Clarity here prevents any confusion down the road. Follow the Rules: Ensure all deals stick to NCAA rules and state laws. Keeping everything above board protects the athlete's eligibility and your business's reputation. Rights to Content: Decide who owns the content created during the partnership. Will the athlete keep the rights to their image, or will your business have exclusive usage? Fair Pay: Pay athletes fairly for their involvement. This isn’t just about money—it could also include perks like product endorsements or brand ambassadorships. Exit Strategy: Include clear terms for ending the partnership. This way, both sides are protected if things don’t go as planned. Tennessee's approach shows how creative thinking can make NIL opportunities a win-win for both athletes and businesses. By keeping these points in mind, you can form successful and beneficial partnerships in this exciting new landscape. #NCAA #NILCollectives #SportsLaw #EntertainmentLaw #LetsTalkAboutNIL
