🔬 Exciting Visit to the Max-von-Laue Hall at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY! 🔬 We´ve had the privilege of guiding approximately 30 participants of Handelskammer Hamburg through an insightful tour led by Holger Sondermann, showcasing the impressive capabilities of the Crystallography and Structural Biology (CSSB) facility. Sabine Brock (DESY / Hi-Acts) accompanied us as we explored the intricacies of our amazing Max-von-Laue Halle. One of the absolute highlights was our visit to #Beamline P11, expertly presented by scientist Spyros D. Chatziefthymiou. We all learned about advanced crystallography techniques and witnessed firsthand the remarkable robotic system within P11, capable of swiftly and autonomously exchanging samples. The participants were particularly engaged, posing numerous questions and expressing a keen interest in further collaboration with industry on the research campus. 🙌 A big thank you to everyone involved in organizing this enriching experience. It was inspiring to see such enthusiasm for cutting-edge research and its potential applications. I am thrilled to announce a new arXiv preprint: https://lnkd.in/eJDq6qMn Together with Gesa Dünnweber, Annabelle Bohrdt & Fabian Grusdt, we develop a real-space renormalization group (RG) formalism for Z2 lattice gauge theories (LGTs) with matter using percolation as an order parameter for confinement. The RG flow is a simultaneous flow of the percolation probability alongside the coupling parameters. Our work enables studies of LGTs in regimes previously out of reach for analytical methods. 📜Paper Alert!📜 I'm thrilled to share the publication of our latest research paper in Advanced Materials titled "Tunable Phonon Polariton Hybridization in a Van der Waals Hetero-Bicrystal." 🔎In this study, we explore phonon polaritons in MoO3-hBN hetero-bicrystals. Our findings demonstrate that by tuning the thickness of material layers, we can control the spectral gap in polariton dispersion and achieve unique polaritonic behaviors such as negative refraction and cavity modes. 🙏The paper is a result of the dedicated hard work of all co-authors and PIs from Stanford University, Columbia University, Stony Brook University, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Nanyang Technological University Singapore. Thanks to Rafael A. Mayer, Shangjie (Stanley) Yu, Jonathan Fan, Mengkun Liu, Guangwei Hu, and all other authors who are not on LinkedIn. ⏱️Special thanks to my employer Flexcompute for providing the awesome simulation tool #Tidy3D so we can finish the simulations in minutes instead of days! Porous materials are found plentiful in nature and these have inspired the development of a diverse class of man-made porous and meta-materials 🌱🔬 Such materials can be #porous at the macroscopic scale, but also at the micro-, nano- and molecular scale. Possible areas of application for porous materials are for example in the #aerospace and #energy sector as well as in #transportation. The rapid development of these materials can be accelerated with the help of #modelling, #simulation and #data-driven approaches towards novel materials discovery and design. To this end, our colleague Ameya Rege together with Pavel Gurikov from Technische Universität Hamburg and Maciej Haranczyk from IMDEA Materials Institute are bringing together the 2nd International Seminar on Modelling, Simulation, and Machine Learning for the Rapid Development of Porous Materials (#MSML). After a successful event in #Cologne at Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. last year, the conference will be organized in #Madrid, Spain at the IMDEA Materials Institute from 4th to 6th March 2024. The oral lectures and poster session will take place on the 5th and 6th March, while a networking event will be organised on the evening of the 4th. 📅📄 The deadline for #abstract submission and registration is 19th February 2024. The organisers do their best to create a friendly, informal atmosphere and promote crosstalk between disciplines related to porous materials, particularly for bridging the gaps between scales and for promoting applied math and software tools aiding the characterisation and discovery of porous materials. 📱 If you are interested, please find more information here: https://lnkd.in/dCyJU3PV 🖊 Registration can be done here: https://lnkd.in/d_jGfMHT 📧 Upon registration, you will be asked to submit an abstract via email to: [email protected] We hope to meet you all in Madrid for making the MSML conference a grand success! #dlrWF #dlr #tuhh #imdea #conference #aerogel #porousmaterials #materialsresearch #rapidmaterialsdevelopment #machinelearning #ML #konferenz #werkstoffforschung #materialforschung #luftfahrt #raumfahrt
