"Met with Kirk Scirto recently. He is a 2009 graduate of the UR/HH family medicine residency. He has returned from various global health long term projects and is now working at an Indian reservation near Buffalo. It was the first time I was able to congratulate him in person for his new book, “Doing Global Health Work: Approaches that Really Make a Difference.” It emphasizes all the right things, and looks carefully at the evidence, or lack thereof, of common global health approaches. And instead of just criticizing, he has practical solutions that prioritize early community involvement, and thus greatly enhance sustainability. In her comments about the new Language Hub, she shared: “We know that nearly 80,000 people a month rely on Hesperian’s translated materials to make informed health decisions or to educate others in their community.
