Nearly half of counties in the United States don't have a single cardiologist, according to a new study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. We believe digital health tools are the most effective and scalable way to bridge the urban-rural divide and help people everywhere take care of their hearts. And we're working every day to do just that. Last year, we published peer-reviewed research that found equitable outcomes for Hello Heart users regardless of their location or distance to a healthcare facility. Check out the findings here: https://lnkd.in/gmYGfRZX And read more about the JACC study here in NBC News: https://lnkd.in/eVweqJiF #RuralHealth #DigitalHealth #HeartHealth

Do older patients ignore digital tools? One thing that surprises me is the perception on the provider side that older adults don't/won't use digital tools, and then when analyzing user data, just how wrong that perception is. The pace of success of digital health is in part reliant on changing our own attitudes about what patients are interested in and capable of. https://lnkd.in/gD2xn8fx

I am pleased to announce the publication of our review article in the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare. Thank you Profs Prof Linda Hong-Gu HE, PhD, MD, RN, FAAN, Pikkarainen Minna, and Year 4 Hons students for the excellent collaboration! The focus of this systematic review was to evaluate the impact of mobile health (mHealth) applications on the psychosocial well-being of breast cancer patients and their caregivers. We rigorously analyzed 12 trials involving a total of 1,204 breast cancer patient-caregiver dyads. The key outcomes studied include dyadic adjustment, depression, anxiety, stress, symptom distress, social well-being, and relationship quality. The meta-analysis revealed some unexpected findings. It was observed that caregivers in the control groups exhibited lower levels of anxiety and stress compared to those who participated in mHealth interventions. These findings serve as critical insights for healthcare professionals, technologists, and policymakers. The nuanced outcomes indicate a need to further refine the design and implementation of mHealth interventions to ensure that they are beneficial to both patients and their caregivers. For those interested in a more detailed understanding of the study, feel free to access through the following link: https://lnkd.in/gxmHp742 #BreastCancer #Caregivers #mHealth #PsychosocialWellBeing #SystematicReview #MetaAnalysis

Many of the topics at the #AMWA2024 annual meetings were in alignment with the recently announced Executive Order on Advancing Women's Health Research and Innovation. This Executive Order seeks to: 1) Prioritize and Increase Investments in Women’s Health Research The NIH has pledged $200 million to launch an NIH-wide effort to close gaps in women’s health research across the lifespan, such as on the impact of perimenopause and menopause on heart health, brain health, and bone health. In response to many investigators not knowing about federal funding opportunities, the NIH will issue a new Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to identify open funding opportunities related to women’s health research across a wide range of health conditions. 2) Foster Innovation and Discovery in Women’s Health The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is launching a Sprint for Women’s Health that will commit $100 million in funding to transformative research and development (R&D) in women’s health. In addition, the NIH also plans a 50% increase in its investment in private-sector innovators and small businesses engaged in R&D on women’s health. Another very important development is that the NIH will focus on biomarker research to help improve early detection and treatment of conditions that uniquely affect women, such as endometriosis. 3) Expand and Leverage Data Collection and Analysis Related to Women’s Health The NIH is launching an effort that will promote interoperability and improve data accuracy by identifying and developing new common data elements. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to improve its analysis and reporting of women’s health information by expanding the collection of key quality measures across a woman’s lifespan. All of these areas of focus will require input and engagement with multiple stakeholders to ensure that JEDI principles are are integrated into the activities and programs developed through this Executive Order. AMWA, its committee leads and members will be engaging on various levels with the NIH, ORWH and the CDC. Please bookmark the link and follow us to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eAV3z-9u

National Institutes of Health (NIH) research from 2023 determined that US adults living in rural areas have a 19 percent higher risk of developing heart failure compared to their urban counterparts. The study also shows that Black men living in rural areas have an especially high risk of developing the disease. “Patients with heart failure who reside in rural communities have worse post-discharge outcomes than those in urban communities,” said Ambarish Pandey, MD, associate professor of internal medicine and medical director of the Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center, in an interview with mHealthIntelligence. “There are also differences in care utilization, with rural-residing patients participating in cardiac rehabilitation after heart failure hospitalization at a much lower rate due to transportation barriers and limited access to cardiac rehabilitation centers." Smart Meter's cellular remote patient monitoring (RPM)™ can provide rural patients an easy way to test vitals during rehabilitation. Our iBloodPressure® for hypertension and iScale® for weight management can transmit important readings from patients to their provider with no synching, pairing, WIFi or hub required. How might digital technology impact quality of life for people with chronic conditions? My colleague, Adriano Garcez BSc, MSc, MBA and his cohort of authors has recently published "Impact of Digital Health Technology on Quality of Life in Patients With Heart Failure" in the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC): HEART FAILURE journal, Volume 12, Issue 2, 2024. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of three digital technologies (Bodyport, Conversa, and Noom) on the quality of life (QoL) in patients with heart failure. Through a randomized controlled trial, a total of 182 patients were assigned to either usual care or one of the digital interventions. The primary outcome measure was the 90-day change in QoL, as assessed by the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) Overall Summary Score (OSS). Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eY69DQ6Q

They find some of their limbs involuntarily twisting or forming abnormal posture. Other neurological conditions related to dystonia are worse. As the affected try to control their situation they become valnurable to abusing drugs and seeking help from traditional healers. Botox which is used to manage dystonia is very expensive. User has to use it every 4 months for life. Cost implications can be managed through networking so that the drug could be shared. Anti-Dystonia Local Organisation was formed to facilitate this networking and to deal with other dystonia issues. There are many types of dystonia which include neck(cervical dystonia), hand jaw or tongue (oromandibular dystonia), eyelid ,voice box and vocal cords ( spamodic dystonia). There are other neurological conditions related to dystonia which include parkinson's disease, stroke, autism, cerebral palsy spinal injury just to mention a few. There is need for creating awarenesses about this disorders, proper networking, collecting proper data for each case,to mitigate stigmatisation arising from the conditions. Through the awarenesses creation this cases will be reported early for early intervention. Through networking cost implications will be managed along with other benefits. Through proper data collection we shall know who suffers from what and what they need. There is no known cure for this disorders. Facilitation for search for cure is important. Managing the conditions through therapies, medication, assistive devices, surgery, educating the society, emergency response, providing health specialists, having specialized care units will be a great move towards helping the affected. Anti-Dystonia Local Organisation partnering with Global Health Network will help achieve this gaols.
