Happy holidays! 🚀 Magnora ASA: Helios Nordic Energy AB closing largest transaction to date. 252 MWp. Magnora ASA's (Magnora) portfolio company Helios Nordic Energy AB (Helios) signed today an agreement to sell seven solar pv projects with combined capacity of 252 MWp to Norwegian energy company Hafslund. This transaction is Helios seventh and largest in terms of size and value to date. Six of the projects are in zone SE3 and one in SE4. These parts of southern Sweden have attractive solar irradiation conditions while running short on energy production and grid capacity. Due to the attractive locations of the projects, the price per MW for the portfolio is in the high end of Magnora's price guiding. Helios sells most projects when a substantial part of the risk is mitigated. Typically, Helios receives partial payment when a transaction is closed and the remaining payment when projects have reached ready-to-build status. Hafslund has acquired four projects where the construction phase is likely to start in 2024 and three projects expected to reach ready-to-build in 2025-26. "We are very pleased with signing this deal with Hafslund as we have found them to be very professional during this bid process, and they have proven to be very serious about their ambitions for the Swedish Solar PV market. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with them and to deliver our projects during the next years to come," says Andreas Tunbjer, CEO of Helios. In total Helios has sold 955 MW. Last year Helios delivered four ready-to-build projects with a total capacity of 147 MW to Solgrid, Nordic Solar and Commerz Real. Sungrow unveils floating solar array at RE , specialised for the North American market:Chinese power company Sungrow has unveiled its latest floating solar system at the RE event in Las Vegas, which it said is “suitable for the North American market”. The new floating modules, produced by Sungrow Floating PV, the company’s floating solar wing, can support a snow load of between 0.32-1.65kN/m2, a measure of how much force a surface can endure without breaking.A 2018 report from the British Columbia Building Code, which operates in Canada, reported that the average weight on rooves of new snowfall in Canada was around 1kN/m2, and considering much of North America receives less snowfall than in Canada, it is likely Sungrow’s new modules will be able to endure the majority of snowfall across the continent. The company also noted that the latest modules build on the materials and standardisation processes used in previous floating solar arrays, improving the installation efficiency by 15% over older models. “Under the demand of North America’s energy transition and the trend of carbon neutrality, Sungrow Floating PV is committed to driving North America towards a green future with cutting-edge technology and reliable products,” said Wang Lei, deputy general manager of Sungrow Floating PV. The news follows Sungrow Floating PV’s supply of 192MW of floating modules to the Cirata project in Indonesia, a vital proof of concept for the floating solar sector, which has historically received significant interest, but little investment in large-scale projects. Considering the dramatically different climatic conditions in much of North America, compared to the Asia-Pacific region, Sungrow will be hopeful that its latest product can function in such a radically different climate. The reveal of the new array could also help expand the small US floating solar sector. 🟡 SKALA Partners acquires the rights to a large-scale solar energy project in Sweden Stockholm, June 17, 2024 – SKALA Partners hereby announces that the company has acquired the rights to a large-scale solar power project. The project is located in southern Sweden in electricity area SE3 and is in an early development phase. When the project is in operation, the project will have a capacity of approx. 45 MW and is estimated to contribute sustainable energy to more than 9,000 villas for the equivalent annual consumption of household electricity.   The acquisition is an important step in SKALA's journey towards becoming a leading player in renewable energy in the Nordics. This week, our central New Mexico community received some fantastic news on the economic development front. Two large renewable energy companies announced plans for major investments in manufacturing plants that will create more than 2,000 high-quality jobs for New Mexicans. In support of our economic development partners at the City of Albuquerque and State of New Mexico, CNM was involved in the recruitment of both Maxeon, a Singapore-based solar panel manufacturer, and Arcosa, a Texas-based wind turbine company. Maxeon Solar Technologies announced this week that it will build its first U.S. manufacturing expansion site in Albuquerque’s Mesa del Sol area with a $1 billion investment. This will be the first large-scale photovoltaic cell and panel producer in New Mexico and the largest in the country. 🔌 INDUSTRY NEWS: RHEINENERGE, BAYERNWERK AND LECHWERKE START 14MWh BESS PROJECT 🌐   🌟 Germany's energy leaders RheinEnergie and Bayernwerk are bringing a new chapter in the energy transition to South America, North America and Europe. The two companies have each initiated and built battery storage projects totaling 14MWh.   💡 RheinEnergie started construction of a 32MW solar photovoltaic 7MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the northern Karen Vorpommern state, laying the foundation for sustainable energy investment in 2024.   💼 A few days later, Bayernwerk and Lechwerke announced the joint commercial operation of the 7MW/7.4MWh BESS in Bavaria. This marks the innovative cooperation between the two companies in the energy field, which will gain double returns from the power market and grid support.   🔌 These projects will enable the energy transition through participation in electricity markets and grid support services, utilizing existing backup grid connections. Technical leadership and transactional activities will be shared between the two companies, demonstrating the shared value of the partnership.   🌍 To achieve net zero emissions, Bayernwerk says Bavaria needs about 1GW of battery storage capacity. These projects provide a solid foundation for a sustainable future.   ⚡ These battery energy storage projects not only create key opportunities for the energy transition, but also support flexibility in energy supply and use. Sneaking this first post in late on the 1st December in the Americas... It doesn't matter too much whether you want cheaper energy or cleaner air in your city, or to reduce radioactive pollution from coal-fired power stations or to eliminate C02 emissions… …large-scale solar energy generation is for you. Those who follow this sector will know that the price curve for solar energy dates back to the 1960s. Once a highly expensive and esoteric source of power for satellites, a few years ago it became one of the cheapest sources of power for our planet. Back in October 2016, I gave a speech at the annual meeting of the Long-Term Infrastructure Investors Association on what might then have been seen as the rather radical notion that renewable energy would become an infrastructure asset class. Just seven years later, there are now hundreds of funds writing US$100 million cheques to acquire or build these types of asset. One of our first significant deals in the sector was to secure the capital to complete the late stage development of one of the first 1GW utility scale solar PV portfolios in Australia - for our client Photon Energy Group. Following a partnership with Canadian Solar Inc., some of the operating assets are now owned by a Berkshire Hathaway company - and GW scale projects are now almost commonplace. Middle Tennessee Electric and Silicon Ranch Unveil 110 MW Solar Venture in TVA’s Expanded Generation Flexibility Program Silicon Ranch, based in Nashville and one of the nation’s largest independent power producers specializing in solar energy, agrivoltaics, and carbon solutions, along with Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE), the largest electric cooperative in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) region and the second largest in the United States, announced a solar agreement under TVA’s newly expanded Generation Flexibility Program.
