Ok so what exactly is this and why is it needed? 🤷♀️
Project Manager Joe, take it away....
This is a three phase and neutral distribution board which acts as a central hub for an installation, in this case it is one of 12 due to the size of the factory we are working on It allows us to segregate areas of the factory due to supply demand and location. They are all fed from a 1000A Main Distribution Panel via an overhead busbar system.
The distribution board is made up of:
A 125amp Main Switch which allows us to disconnect power to the entire installation for maintenance and safety purposes.
Single phase MCBs which provide overcurrent protection to individual circuits, automatically tripping and disconnecting the circuit if it exceeds its rated current capacity.
Three phase MCBs which provide overcurrent protection to individual three phase circuits.
RCBO’s which combine the functions of an RCD (Residual Current Device) and an MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker). They offer short circuit protection, overcurrent protection and they also offer protection against earth leakage.
RCBOs and MCB which are vital for protection against electric shocks and protecting the wiring systems!
We also have AFDD’s installed here which stands for Arc Fault Detection Device. AFDDs are protective devices installed in distribution boards to provide protection from arc faults.
They use microprocessor technology to analyse the waveform of the electricity being used to detect any unusual signatures which would signify an arc on the circuit. This will cut off power to the affected circuit and could prevent a fire. They are far more sensitive to arcs than conventional circuit protective devices.
Mind blown....but hey now you know! 😲 😁
