heliguy’s™ GIS team recently demonstrated the seamless integration of drone data and terrestrial laser scanning at Causey Arch, the world’s oldest railway bridge. Check out the results in the video below! Here’s how they did it: 📸 Drone Data Collection: They used a Mavic 3 Enterprise to fly over the arch, capturing 1000 images in just 45 minutes, then processed in DJI Terra, which took approx. 2 hours and 20 minutes. 📏 Terrestrial Laser Scanning: The team combined the drone data with XGrids L2 (16-channel) scan data; this scan only took 10 minutes and was processed in Lixel Studio within 45 minutes. It's the start of the Premier League season this weekend - so we couldn't resist sharing this detailed Gaussian Splatting model showcasing the outside of Newcastle United's St James' Park stadium. We conducted the scan with the XGRIDS LixelKity K1 handheld scanner, which combines multi-SLAM and 3DGS (Gaussian Splatting) technology. The data was processed through XGRIDS' Lixel CyberColour software - which allows for the creation of ultra-realistic large-scale 3D models. Gaussian Splatting is a technique for modelling 3D scenes and utilises efficient rasterisation. The scan took five minutes, followed by three hours of processing time. The outputs seamlessly integrate with professional 3D software such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
