Thomas W. Dinsmore asked me about my career post "Hi Rory. One question: what do you want to do next?". Here's my answer. Apologies, Thomas, as it was too lengthy to reply (or edit quickly) so I took the path of least resistance... What I “Want to do next?”: My personal ambition (and strength) is to enable a company, or companies (more on that later) to see their market differently as “finite” in order to be much more strategic, calculated and precise targeting their segments/territories, positioning the brand and thought leaders, creating demand, engaging ideal buyers, and acquiring customers (revenue). Over my career, I continue to hone a proven method to more rapidly penetrate a market and I’d like to bring that to organization(s) interested. It’s why, whether I was a sales or marketing leader — or — an individual Sales Account Exec contributor, I was able to penetrate a market (Business) or territory (AE) in a fast, methodical way. Results-as-a-Service & Consulting: I started RKI Analytics, LLC. (my company) to offer fractional work or offer an -as-a-Service model to deliver the results continuously running my efficient methodology on a flexible basis, allowing multiple companies to drive growth and make informed decisions without the overhead of a full-time executive. I'd learn more companies, industries, and it would be more "fun". Ideal Employment Role: Having recently led sales and marketing, I'm comfortable 'specializing' either way. That translates to ideal roles as VP/Dir of Sales, VP/Dir of Marketing. The true passion / sweet spot typically resides in strategy or industry/solution/product marketing. It also works out to Business Development or Demand Generation "on steroids" (IMO) - it's atypical, more efficient, cost-effective, and faster results. Decision Point: This summer I cleared my backlog to be at this inflection point (now) to either: A) build & execute a pipeline of smart businesses looking to win their market faster via RKI Analytics, LLC., or, B) take a meaningful role to make an impact as a direct employee at some lucky company. I'll give my all to one of those... How People Can Help: Either (1) Be my customer — if a B2B business wants to methodically build awareness, penetrate, and engage market segments faster, then be a founding customer in RKI Analytics; or, (2) Alternatively, if my network knows of a direct employment role whose culture or philosophy is seeking thought leadership and rapid positioning and penetration in a market, I’ll explore those roles and dedicate myself. It’s been a week since my role was eliminated. While I’m saddened and disappointed to no longer work alongside the brilliant minds I had the privilege of collaborating with daily at Velsera, I’m hopeful and excited for what’s next! Having been through a reduction-in-force before, there is a slight silver lining: you gain a clearer understanding of what to expect, recognize the number of opportunities that still exist, and it gives you the time and space to thoughtfully consider your next steps. I took the past week to reflect on my future, and I’ve realized that my passion for Sales Enablement is unwavering. It’s where I thrive. There’s no greater fulfillment for me than uniting teams to ensure Sales has everything they need to achieve the best outcomes for their customers and prospects. That said, I’m also open to Sales or Customer Success roles within Sales Enablement platform companies. Having worked in environments with limited enablement software, I truly understand the transformative power of the right tools, not just for the enablement team but for the entire sales organization. I’ve built the business cases for these systems, and I want to help others do the same, offering real partnership in this space. I’m optimistic about the future and feel incredibly fortunate to have worked for a company that fostered such meaningful friendships and connections. I’m also grateful for the patience and knowledge shared with me by those who helped me navigate the world of BioTech. During this downtime, I’m committed to continuing my growth through the LinkedIn Learning platform and would love to participate in any "meeting of the minds" sessions, so please feel free to send those my way!
