Productivity growth in Australia has, over the past decade, fallen to its lowest rate since the 1950s. It’s part of a global trend, with productivity slowing since a pick-up in the late 1980s and much of the 1990s. The Productivity Commission found that if the 95 per cent of Australians who worked outside the agriculture and mining sectors had been able to maintain the 2.2 per cent productivity growth rate averaged through the 1990s over the past 25 years, their average annual incomes would be $25,000 higher. Jwaneng Mine, Debswana 's flagship operation is advancing impressively well as far as reaching it's targets is concerned. The General Manager Mr Koolatotse Koolatotse revealed that the mine has surpassed its Big Harry Audacious Goal (BHAG) target of saving P3.5 billion during the period of their ODOT 2024 strategy. The BHAG Cash efficiency is part of the Debswana 2024 strategy launched in 2019 where the company set an ambitious target of retuning additional P10 billion to shareholders from cash efficiency and cost containment. “In June 2023 we clocked the P3.5 billion that was set for us, Orapa was given a target, and our Debswana Corporate Centre in Gaborone also had a target, making a total of P10 billion, here in Jwaneng we have surpassed our set target even before we get to 2024, we are now at P3.7 billion”. "How did we achieve that? We lead by example, for example the Exco team was supposed to go to Capetown for strategy , we then recieved a memo that the markets are down, we sat and discussed as to whether we should go to Capetown and consume sushis then come back and tell our employees that they should save money when we didn't.... we met as Exco and said let's terminate that trip it's not setting a good example , we should lead by example. " Jwaneng GM Koolatotse said in a business update this week.
