Information session today at 6:00 pm!
We asked Anne, one of our incredible Lynchburg Volunteer Advocates, what her favorite part of being a CASA is, and her response is so inspiring! Being a CASA Volunteer allows her to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in foster care. As a former foster parent with three adopted children, two of whom had CASA support, she values knowing someone is dedicated to each child's success. Anne sees being a CASA as her chance to 'pay it forward' and be there for both children and their parents or guardians. If you are interested in becoming a CASA Volunteer, the first step is to attend an information session where you will learn about our organization and what being an Advocate means. Here are some upcoming info session dates: Today, December 12th (Lynchburg) Thursday, January 4th (Appomattox) Saturday, January 6th (Lynchburg) You can register for any of these sessions at https://lnkd.in/ggrRz5fy. Let's change a child's story! #changeachildsstory #casacv #becomeavolunteer

We are not recruiting old mother Hubbard to dispense tea and biscuits with a kindly word, we are recruiting people to work with and care for some of the most traumatised vulnerable high needs children in the UK, pretty much 24 hours a day 365 days of the year. It is often suggested, by those resistant to change, that educating foster carers to a higher standard would somehow detract from, or change the concept of, the loving fostering family home. Speaking from front-line first-hand experience I can categorically tell you that is not true. It will simply lead foster carers who are better equipped to work with the abuse, neglect, separation and loss our children and young people have suffered, to be better trained to understand the effects of trauma and help children heal and thrive. These are actually the foundations you need in place before you are able to build that stable loving family home, not the other way round. Perhaps then we will see less damage down the road and fewer care leavers living out their lives amongst the homeless. #fostercare #betteroutcomes

Why? When asked, the most common answer given by foster parents who have chosen not to continue fostering is lack of support. And truly, we get it. The work of stepping into the gap to parent someone else's children (while fighting a system with its fair share of struggles) is not for the faint of heart, it takes a Village. Foster Village bridges this gap between those experiencing foster care and those who want to help, meeting practical needs and providing holistic support beyond the system. By caring for the caregivers and mobilizing an engaged community, we empower generations of vulnerable children and families to overcome adversity. 🖇STRATEGIC SATURDAYS🖇 This month I was honored to support the team of Royal Family Kids Anchorage by speaking at their annual fundraising and informational event, Night to Remember. This ministry serves children in foster care with some of the deepest trauma by providing a week in the outdoors surrounded by vetted, highly trained adults to help them have a normal childhood experience. We discussed 20 ways to support the foster care community (and only one of them involved being a foster parent). Why is this being posted under this “Strategic Saturday” series? Because caring shouldn’t be something we do “strategically”. Caring is a lifestyle. Caring is who we strive to be. Caring cannot be falsified (although some will try and some organizations do a good attempt at it). You know what caring looks like deep down. My encouragement today is to always advocate for the care of the least of these in strategic means. Use your abilities to advance those who have no voice. It’s the most fulfilling thing you’ll ever do. Keep Leading Forward, D. #fostercare #leadership #childwelfare #childadvocacy

Learn more about CASA. 🔷 Q: What is the difference CASA makes for children? 🔷 A: Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to find a safe, permanent, nurturing home. When a CASA has been assigned, a child is far less likely to re-enter the foster care system after successful reunification with their parent. And children who receive advocacy while in the system are twice as likely to graduate from high school. National CASA reports that children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to receive therapy, health care and education, more likely to do better in school, less likely to be bounced from one place to another, and half as likely to re-enter the foster care system. Most importantly, children themselves report that they know and can rely on their CASA volunteer. 🔷 #CASAforChildren #ChangeAChildsStory #VoicesForChildren #AdvocateForKids
