Help us to congratulate our four new official CASA volunteers! These wonderful ladies all had their swearing in ceremonies last Friday - two in Boone and two in Callaway. We are so grateful to LaVonda, Nanette, Dena, and Cher for their hard work throughout training, and their commitment to children who need someone in their corner. We are so excited for these ladies to be assigned to their first cases and start advocating for children in foster care! Want to join our next training class starting July 16? Learn more about CASA. 🔷 Q: What is the difference CASA makes for children? 🔷 A: Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to find a safe, permanent, nurturing home. When a CASA has been assigned, a child is far less likely to re-enter the foster care system after successful reunification with their parent. And children who receive advocacy while in the system are twice as likely to graduate from high school. National CASA reports that children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to receive therapy, health care and education, more likely to do better in school, less likely to be bounced from one place to another, and half as likely to re-enter the foster care system. Most importantly, children themselves report that they know and can rely on their CASA volunteer. 🔷 #CASAforChildren #ChangeAChildsStory #VoicesForChildren #AdvocateForKids

🖇STRATEGIC SATURDAYS🖇 This month I was honored to support the team of Royal Family Kids Anchorage by speaking at their annual fundraising and informational event, Night to Remember. This ministry serves children in foster care with some of the deepest trauma by providing a week in the outdoors surrounded by vetted, highly trained adults to help them have a normal childhood experience. We discussed 20 ways to support the foster care community (and only one of them involved being a foster parent). Why is this being posted under this “Strategic Saturday” series? Because caring shouldn’t be something we do “strategically”. Caring is a lifestyle. Caring is who we strive to be. Caring cannot be falsified (although some will try and some organizations do a good attempt at it). You know what caring looks like deep down. My encouragement today is to always advocate for the care of the least of these in strategic means. Use your abilities to advance those who have no voice. It’s the most fulfilling thing you’ll ever do. Keep Leading Forward, D. #fostercare #leadership #childwelfare #childadvocacy

The last Indian residential school in Canada closed in 1996. However, some provincially-run residential school programs continued to operate until the early 2000s. It's possible for three generations to have been affected by that system. When a child is placed into foster care due to intergenerational trauma, there may be instability and high turnover in foster care placements. Children in the foster care system also experience their own trauma. This highlights how trauma intersects and continues across generations and systems. #TraumaAwareness #CommunitySupport"

Denver Academy, hosted the PBS public screening of “Rebecoming Me” in their new theater. This 30-minute journey through trauma and healing focuses on the profound experiences of five adults who navigated foster care as children. We learned through their experiences that the foster care system needs vast improvement! Advocates who helped with the film suggest we take steps to lean on government officials to make needed change. Among the changes; 1. Education - get schools directly involved in guiding each foster student step by step. Ensure these children feel seen, wanted and that graduation is expected. 2. Let foster children be kids - create childhood memories with funding for activities. (No one ever took photos of the individuals featured in the film as children.😢) 3. Give foster parents a voice in child rearing. 4.) Mentors for foster children. There are almost 4,000 foster kids in Colorado who need help, hope and healing. Stream film at pbs12.org/rebecomingme 🙏🏻💔 #foster #fosterkids #fosterparents #advocates @pbs #family #education @denver

Children in foster care often grow up faster than their peers. ⏳ They are frequently burdened with adult responsibilities ahead of their time. We strive to support these mature souls by offering resources and guidance along their journey. 💙 See the link below for information on how to help: https://bit.ly/3FwTuLl #AMightyChangeOfHeart #FosterCareJourney #MakeADifference
