It is no longer enough for sustainability professionals to propel their companies’ climate and sustainability endeavors and promote their positive results. Our purpose now requires collective action. Only through full engagement and alignment of our industry and government affairs functions will we effect the required policy changes at a systems level.

Advancing sustainability isn’t just for people like me who have the word in their job title – success relies on everyone making the effort. Eight out of 10 employees are willing to take action on climate change in their jobs, and 45% are ready to be pioneers of climate action within their teams.     People want to get involved, and I’ve seen first-hand that when they do, we can make a real difference. And I’m not alone - more than half of business leaders say that they’ve increased their sustainability actions because of employee activism.    Team-driven initiatives can be powerful players in steering corporate sustainability agendas. Private sector we cannot tackle sustainability without you. Chief Sustainability Officers could be that crucial link between ambition and evidence. Sheri (Houston) Hickok makes the case for CSOs in her piece "The antidote to this is a chief sustainability officer–a leader who can set strategies to embed climate priorities within business goals, align purpose and profit, and navigate the plethora of new regulations and standards putting climate actions and claims under a microscope."
