"All you need is a sledgehammer and a bit of lunacy…" 👇 Want to know the secret to nailing the interview, winning the client, standing out from the crowd? Storytelling. But you won’t find the best yarns in a textbook or a training course. Just look in the mirror and to your own unique experience. I feel like I first discovered my love for storytelling with my late Dad, and Fred Dibnah. Fred was a steeplejack, and a hero of Dad's, and so mine.  Each week Dad and I would be glued to the telly as Fred showed complete disregard for health and safety to topple the biggest chimney you ever saw. He did it with humour, passion, and expert precision, it was captivating. He was the best at what he did. Unique. But he was also normal, just like us. Down to earth you might say, like his chimneys! But with a modern lens, I realise Fred had all the qualities we might look for in a leader or a brand we can trust: #authenticity - Fred had a genuine passion for industrial heritage and engineering. His values shone through consistently, making him relatable and trustworthy. #enthusiasm - Fred's enthusiasm was infectious, inspiring. He brought such energy to his exploits and to those watching him. That energy still resonates with me more than 40 years later. #expertise - His depth of knowledge about Britain’s industrial past was authoritative and he was generous in sharing his expertise, encouraging all of us to learn. #Personal Connection - For 30 minutes every week, Fred made me and my Dad part of his world. We were there with him, connected to his challenges, triumphs, and the detail of his work. #storytelling - he was a master storyteller, able to share complex information in way that was simple but compelling, enough to build an emotional connection with everyone. So if you want to smash the interview, secure the client, or be known for your expertise, look inside, find your stories and tell them. Never mind the sledgehammer. There’s no tool more powerful than your authentic self. The clip is well worth a watch if you have 10mins but if you want to get straight to the action jump in at 8:45!
