💭 Weekly Wednesday Thoughts I wonder what it could look like for higher education institution to PAY therapists to run therapy groups for diverse/BIPOC/queer STAFF. I believe that we need spaces where we can sit, talk about, and process the different oppressions, challenges, and even privilege's that we experience being a diverse person in higher ed and how these oppressions and privilege's impact our day to day work. ❔ Speaking for myself, the different diverse identities that I hold and oppressions that I experience from society inform the way that I show up day to day at work. If it weren't for these, I would've never developed a passion to create spaces where diverse students feel seen, known, and heard. #highereducation #diversityequityinclusion #oppression #foodforthought

❓ Do you work with high school seniors with disabilities who are currently receiving college acceptances? 👆 It’s a good idea for them to review each college's DS site to see what they offer (and don’t) and check for other sources of academic support on campus. 👉 I demonstrate how to do that in this video. https://lnkd.in/dXQsjQnt https://lnkd.in/dXQsjQnt #CollegeSearch #CollegeAccess #DyslexiaParent #ADHDparent #LearningDisabilities

“Having an IEP has enabled my daughter, who wears bilateral cochlear implants, to receive the services and accommodations she needs to be successful in a mainstream classroom.” - Anonymous Parent As your child turns three, they transition from Early Intervention to special education in your local school district. Understanding Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) is crucial for tailored support, including literacy. Your service coordinator guides this transition, evaluating needs for an IEP, 504 plan, or no accommodations. An IEP goes beyond mere accommodation; it's a personalized plan addressing learning challenges during academic changes, protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
