I'm a Chairman, Advisor and Coach who helps ambitious HealthTech CEOs, Founders, and Executives unlock outsized growth for themselves, their teams, and their businesses.
Healthcare is Drowning in a Sea of Brilliant Tech (That Doesn't Actually Help) There's a never-ending stream of "revolutionary" solutions flooding the market. But here's the crazy thing most people won't admit - a lot of this tech is a distraction. We've been sold a narrative that innovation is the silver bullet to healthcare's woes. But the data tells a different story. A 2020 study by the American Medical Association found that implementing complex new technologies often leads to unintended consequences, like increased costs and decreased patient satisfaction. Here's how we can ditch the tech obsession and focus on what truly matters: Prioritise empathy over efficiency. Algorithms can't replicate the human touch. Doctors need time to build rapport with patients, understand their concerns, and tailor treatment plans. Focus on the basics. Invest in things like improving appointment scheduling, reducing wait times, and ensuring clear communication between patients and providers. These seemingly simple improvements can have a massive impact on the healthcare experience. Personalise care, not apps. One-size-fits-all medicine is a recipe for disaster. We need to leverage technology to personalize treatment plans and empower patients to be active participants in their own health. So what? Why should we care about this? Because a tech-driven healthcare system can create a cold, impersonal experience for patients. It prioritises efficiency over effectiveness, and ultimately, leaves people feeling like a number, not a human being. Patients who feel cared for have better health outcomes. It's not just about warm fuzzies. Studies show that strong patient-provider relationships lead to improved adherence to treatment plans, lower healthcare costs, and better overall well-being.
