🩺❤️ At the end of June, over a dozen clients and their caregivers attended HEART Health and Wellness Day! The MDPCP team held giveaways and provided education about accessing cancer screenings, Medicare and HEART funds, and the basics of care at Health Care for the Homeless. Behavioral Health Therapist Deirdre Hoey, LCSW-C also led the room in a breathing and movement exercise. yli has just endorsed AB 2700, which connects people experiencing behavioral health crises to the appropriate care facilities such as crisis stabilization units and sobering centers. Over the last 6 years, California has been piloting programs to transport individuals in behavioral health crises to destinations such as crisis stabilization units and sobering centers as appropriate. An independent UCSF evaluation found that 98% of patients transported to a mental health crisis center were effectively treated for their behavioral health needs. The evaluation also found that ambulance patient offload times were considerably lower for transports to mental health crisis and sobering centers, meaning ambulance crews can respond more quickly to other 911 calls. This bill would expand access to vital behavioral health crisis services while relieving the pressure on our EMS systems and emergency rooms. 📮 SURVEY | It's estimated that more than 1 in every 10 adults aged 60 and older has been a victim of elder mistreatment, and that figure is likely an underestimate as many more older people suffered from mistreatment during the pandemic. Trust for America's Health is partnering with EDC (Education Development Center) and the National Alliance for Caregiving to develop tools and guidance to support public health roles in preventing and addressing elder mistreatment. Help guide their efforts in developing this resource by participating in this survey. The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is continuing Behavioral Health Transformation (BHT) to improve access to behavioral health care, ensure better use of resources, and expand treatment options. This means more Californians will get the support they need to thrive in their communities. DHCS took a step forward with BHT to enact the changes resulting from Proposition 1. BHT builds upon ongoing efforts to support vulnerable populations living with the most significant mental health conditions and substance use disorders. The initiative also includes a bond to increase treatment beds, supportive housing, and outpatient capacity. The existing Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) will be the vehicle to distribute funds resulting from AB 531. DHCS is also beginning to develop policy and guidance to support counties in fulfilling the statutory requirements of Proposition 1. In the coming months, DHCS will host public listening sessions to receive feedback on BHT. For more information, check out: https://ow.ly/vNIZ50QZ1HB #DHCS #California #BehavioralHealth

Just whole healthcare executive scaling health equity through field-defining business, policy and service integration strategy
Congrats to the one hundred one CBO's, tribes, counties and coalitions granted $70.5 million today to advance behavioral #healthequity in our communities! Great to see the California Department of Health Care Services double down on brick and mortar facility (BHCIP) grantees The TransLatin@ Coalition and The Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse (L.A. CADA), and add recognizable names like Homeboy Industries, SPECIAL SERVICES GROUP LLC to the ranks of Sycamores! Notable (and by comparison), community health centers/FQHC's will also hear this week about $650 million in Equity & Practice Transformation investments in their population health management and value-based payment infrastructure, which also looks at behavioral health services, screening, and integration. Lots to like about these investments so those with mental health or substance use challenges can access care. Given the size of the dollars, here's hoping #sustainability is a focal point of each entity's #healthcareinnovation. #mentalhealthishealth https://lnkd.in/g6-mie5q

Here's some difficult statistics: Alaska leads the nation in the rate of young people who die by suicide and according to the Alaska Children’s Trust, 80% of children who need mental health services don't get care. There are ways to improve these terrible numbers. Alaskan children need access to care. Alaskan Dr. Cierra Gromoff and her co-founder Christie Sander have developed Kismet Health Inc, a pediatric telehealth platform that makes care more accessible to children & their families. Health TIE is championing Kismet and introducing Dr. Cierra Gromoff & Christie Sander to Alaskan healthcare leaders so that, together, we can make a difference & provide care to Alaskan children & teenagers. #healthcareinnovation #suicideprevention #alaska

The “game” is ever-shifting with barriers to access to care, but some things never change 🤦🏼♀️ This week, I had THREE insurance peer reviews for #ABA denials for clients who have clear & obvious need! It took 90 minutes for me to explain to case managers about the specific goals chosen, barriers to treatment, reason for slow progress & the rationale behind the mastery criteria chosen. It is hard for them to defend/uphold a denial when the #psychologist is explaining typical/expected child development & how statistical reasoning was used to establish clear fading & termination procedures. Not to brag, but I know what I’m talking about & dislike circular reasoning. These results come from the collaboration & determination of both clinical & administrative staff Cadenza Center for Psychotherapy and the Arts EXPECTED OUTCOME: approval of services requested for all three kids! BOTTOM LINE: choose your providers carefully! Your child’s access to effective treatment depends on it. #ChildPsychologist #healthinsurance #healthcareprofessionals #managedcare #AccessToCare #patientadvocacy #behindthescenes #commonsense #dotherightthing Danyel Hen Ashley Castro Allana Karras, B.A, M.Ed, BCBA Arielle Thony
