We had an incredible day celebrating our #BlackInternProg Class of 2024 during yesterday's Closing Ceremony. 🎊 We were delighted to be joined by interns, host organisations and more for an exciting event, including: 🥁 A live steel drum band kicking off the day in style. 🎤 A warm welcome from our brilliant hosts for the day, Olufunmilayo Obadofin and Eghosa Lucky Emumwen. ⭐ Opening remarks from Patsy Wilkinson, Deputy Chair of HDR UK's Board, who said "our mission at HDR UK could not be achieved without collaboration and partnership, and that vision underpins this programme". 🗣 An insightful panel discussion with some of this year's interns and host organisations. 🫶 An inspiring keynote speech from Malone Mukwende, who offered invaluable advice to our interns. 🖌️ The talented Jenny Leonard joined us again this year, to bring the Closing Ceremony to life in a live illustration. 🏆 Some of our interns showcase the projects they worked on at their host organisations over Summer during our poster presentation session. Well done to Priscilla Akyaa Kyei-Baffour for winning our Poster Showcase Award! 🏆Also, congrats to the winners of our Technical Challenge! 🧠 An AI tool, developed using brain scans from the whole Scottish population, aims to predict a person’s risk of dementia. Data scientists and clinical researchers from The University of Edinburgh and The University of Dundee will use a large, anonymised dataset of 1.6 million CT and MRI brain scan images from patients in Scotland. The project, called Scottish AI in Neuroimaging to predict Dementia and Neurodegenerative Disease (SCAN-DAN), is one of three ‘pathfinders’ from global research collaboration NEURii, supported by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and: - Eisai EMEA - Gates Ventures - The University of Edinburgh - LifeArc ➡️ Learn more: https://hubs.li/Q02MHswc0
