HDC is happy to join in celebrating #NeighborWorksWeek, highlighting the critical work that NeighborWorks America does for affordable housing organizations like HDC across the country. HDC is a proud charter member of NeighborWorks America, a network of nearly 250 nonprofit organizations that work together to create affordable housing, support residents, and strengthen communities. Our top priority is the safety of staff and residents. HDC prioritized a comprehensive safety assessment at each of our 72 affordable housing communities to identify necessary upgrades. HDC was graciously awarded $16,000 from NeighorWorks to support these upgrades including the installation of cameras, panic buttons, and door barricades. Thank you to NeighborWorks, for supporting work being done around safety for both residents and staff. We could not do the work of ensuring everyone has a safe, welcoming, affordable place to call home without your support! #affordablehousing #strongcommunities #NWweek #empoweringcommunities #neighborworksweek #workplacesafety #safety #residentsafety

We are proud to partner on the Community Care Expansion Preservation Capital Projects Grant Program with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and Los Angeles County Development Authority. "This program provides a unique opportunity to stabilize the supply of residential care sites, a critical—and often overlooked—component of the housing support continuum," said William F. Pickel, Chief Executive Officer, Brilliant Corners. "This is a prime example of the importance of public/private partnerships: a unique set of stakeholders—from government, to nonprofit, to philanthropy—have designed a program to support the continuity of these vital facilities, and to ensure that operators most at need for these targeted resources are reached." https://lnkd.in/gq898KRH #brilliantcorners #helpingthehomeless #kindnessmatters #housingfirst #buildingthefuture #bethechange #helpingotherssucceed #housingsector #nonprofit #hiring #nonprofitjobs #housingservices #homelessservices #homelessnessawareness #supportiveservices #permanentsupportivehousing #permanenthousing

How can policy help tenants purchase their homes? 🤔 In a growing number of cities across the United States, housing advocates are getting laws passed that give tenants the ability to purchase, either directly or through a nonprofit, their own apartments. Increasingly, these policies are emerging as a powerful anti-displacement strategy. But these policies are hard-won, and not always easy to implement. Even in cities where tenants have established this ability in law, they often have to stave off efforts to dial back these legislative gains. In this 90-minute webinar, cosponsored and co-moderated by NPQ and Shelterforce, a panel of folks who have been reporting on, fighting for, and using these policies will offer their perspectives on this powerful tool. Tune in on Thursday, June 20th, 2:00pm - 3:30pm ET! #DAWI #NPQ

During National Fair Housing Month, revisit AFN's brief, Heirs' Property: Acting to Preserve Wealth. Heirs’ property issues continue to be deeply entrenched in Black, Latino, and other socioeconomically disadvantaged communities across the country. Philanthropy has a vital role to play in tackling these issues and, in doing so, contributing to greater economic security in these communities. Greater philanthropic involvement in this work is imperative to the preservation and stewardship of land and other property that has been passed down, and continues to be passed down, among families in disadvantaged communities.
