Day 3 involved more camaraderie and leadership training! The Top 5 Misconceptions about Failing the School Leadership Licensure Assessment by Edward W. Gordon, II, CEO of Gordon Leadership Academy and Founder of Gordon Leadership Foundation Overcoming false beliefs is essential for success in any professional licensure assessment, including the school leadership licensure assessment or school superintendent assessment. Oftentimes, individuals may hold false beliefs that hinder their performance in these exams, leading to feelings of failure. This checklist is designed to help test-takers identify and overcome these false beliefs, empowering them to approach the assessment with confidence and success. 1. Belief: If I fail the school leadership licensure assessment I am not capable of being an effective school leader. 2. Belief: Failing the assessment means I will never be able to achieve my career goals in education. 3. Belief: There is no point in trying again if I fail the assessment once. 4. Belief: My worth as a leader is solely determined by my performance on this assessment. 5. Belief: If I fail the assessment, it means that I am not meant to be a school leader. These are all misconceptions. Over the past four (4) years Gordon Leadership Academy has been helping clients in South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey pass the School Leadership Licensure Assessment. SPS is bridging opportunity gaps to give ALL students the opportunity to live their best life. 94% of students graduate on time, including multilingual learners. Many districts expect the graduation rate for multilingual learners to be lower...making excuses instead of opportunity. So proud of SPS.
DISTRICT OF DISTINCTION: Spokane Public Schools has been honored as one of just six school districts in the country as a 2024 “District of Distinction." SPS was awarded for excellence in providing access and opportunity to all students, an initiative that had significant impact on student success, engagement and overall educational achievement. “Our staff works hard every day to ensure that each student feels a sense of belonging and is supported in achieving their dreams," said Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard. "I'm proud that their work is being recognized by the national educational community through this award." SPS received this recognition from the District Administration Leadership Institute, a national pre-K12 organization dedicated to advancing educational leadership, ensuring that the nation’s schools are equipped with the visionary guidance needed to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape. Its magazine District Administration is the most widely received and read publication for school district-level leaders nationwide. Learn more about the continuing work of Spokane Public Schools to fulfill our commitment that every student has a dream, access and opportunity for a happy and successful future at spokaneschools.org/equity. #SPSPromise

I am a strategic program designer, talent recruiter, and educator eager to implement innovative practices to create efficient systems, enhance stakeholder experience, and strengthen community
Still basking in the joy that was this year's District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Instructional Superintendents' Retreat. It was an honor to witness the empowering, intentional, collaborative, and student-centered planning work that our cluster leaders engaged in as they continue preparing for SY23-24. I drew the following takeaways from our work together: 1. Leading with equity is more than a mantra. It shows up in the details - the way we prepare, the nuances we explore, the questions we ask, and the norms we embrace. This remained at the center of the work. 2. Relationships are invaluable. Isn't the climb more fulfilling when you've got a strong team lifting you up? 3. There is - and must be - joy in learning. It was refreshing to experience that posture of continuous learning among this group of established leaders. 4. There are opportunities in the challenges ahead, and at DCPS, we are motivated by this call. Extending gratitude to those who were a part of the planning and facilitation of this professional development experience!
