Join us Wednesday, July 17th, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm EST for NCST's next Community Impact Briefing. Our guest speakers will be Ernie Hogan, Executive Director and Chris Rosselot, Policy Director with Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group (PCRG) After a decade of research, a culmination of data analysis reveals a continued decline in the Black homeownership rate in Pittsburgh and Alleghany County, PA. Several factors including segregation by household income, increases to the median home values in Pittsburgh and continued corporate purchases of affordable homes are identified in PCRG's Report "Taking Stock: A Decade in Decline for Black Homeownership in Pittsburgh" as contributing factors to the growing decline in Black homeownership rates. Ernie Hogan and Chris Rosselot will share the results of their latest report and discuss the recommendations PCRG is making to create a statewide Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) in Pennsylvania, which would apply to banks, credit unions, and other non-depository lenders with an enhanced focus on racial equity. Please join us to hear how their organizational work is helping bring continued awareness and advocacy on this issue while also providing resources for Black families striving for homeownership. The work done here highlights the choice of language we use. Early on in our journey to build the framework for TheGrowthApp we built several paths for growth, but came up against an interesting scenario… Whoever we spoke with told us that without adequate housing the chances of failing and returning through those revolving doors was extremely high. We re-analysed what we were missing as we had built these principles on the Norwegian system where reoffending rates were as low as 19% In Norway - a place to call home is a standard offering, whereas here in the UK as many as 30% a month can be released with a tent and homeless. We added Home to our framework and chose not to call it a house. We cannot expect a different outcome by doing the same thing again and again. We support the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and its efforts to build public support as this offers all of us safer communities in the long run.
🗣️ "By using proven strategies to tell a compelling story, we can help people to believe that change is possible and worth calling for" 🏡 Our homes are so much more than just four walls. Decent and affordable homes enable people to build the foundations on which they can thrive. And so, how we talk about homes can help people understand the solutions to our housing crisis. 🤝 At JRF we’re committed to narrative change, which is why we’ve worked in partnership with Nationwide Foundation and FrameWorks UK to deliver proven guidance on how to talk about homes. Our practical and effective framing strategies help tell a compelling story, so that more people see that change is possible and worth calling for. 🔎 Find our more in Natalie Tate's blog: https://lnkd.in/esmxF6qv

New Tools to Advance Equitable Homeownership in Middle Neighborhoods June 13, 2:00-3:00 Eastern REGISTER AT OUR WEBSITE: https://lnkd.in/eV_x3Q6e SPCP is the shorthand used to describe targeted lending products designed to specifically advantage an economically disadvantaged group of people, under the Special Purpose Credit Program provision in the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. Many national lenders have launched SPCP products such as low- or no-interest mortgages; down payment and closing cost grants; low-interest, low-fee refi products, and more. A growing number of regional lenders are doing the same. And one state HFA, the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, is about to launch an SPCP funded by a new $100 per-transaction recording fee. CDFIs and other nonprofit lenders are considering how they might implement SPCPs, too. In this webinar, we will hear from the National Fair Housing Alliance, co-author of the SPCP Toolkit, on the history and opportunities of the SPCP, as well as current trends in program design by all kinds of lenders. Next we will hear from Champlain Housing Trust about how their SPCP works, what went into its design, and how the uptake is going. Please join us to learn how you can help residents in your middle neighborhoods locate and access these programs, or even design one of your own to help close racial wealth and homeownership gaps while stabilizing your middle neighborhood. Panelists Shanti Abedin, Vice President of Housing and Community Development, National Fair Housing Alliance, Washington, DC Julie Curtin, Director of Homeownership, Champlain Housing Trust, Burlington, VT Moderator: Marcia Nedland, Organizer Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice

Investing in affordable housing means investing in stronger, healthier communities. Affordable housing impacts education, health, and income. On a larger scale, it strengthens Michigan’s economic development and attracts more people to our state. #MPC24 #housing #economicdevelopment
Standing room only at Detroit Regional Chamber #MPC24 for Solving Michigan’s Housing Crisis session hosted by Michigan State Housing Development Authority. Flexible, diverse, predictable funding is essential for expanding housing availability in Michigan. Accessible, affordable housing advances racial equity, reduces commutes which is better for the environment, and supports community values to be welcoming to all…not to mention it’s critical to our state’s economic growth. Great discussion Amy (Joseph) Hovey, Linh S., Glenn Wilson, Mayor Duggan, and moderator Senator Sarah Anthony! #SpeedUpPermitting #UpdateZoning #ImpactInvesting #AffordableHousing #LetsGrowMichigan

We are stronger together. That’s is why Promise Neighborhoods across CA came together a few years ago to form the CA Promise Neighborhoods Network(CPNN) to share and learn best practices from each other, to advocate for all of our communities across CA together, and to strategize how to sustain and scale our work. We have accomplished many of our initial goals but have so much more work to do to ensure all of our communities have equitable opportunities to thrive. We meet on a quarterly basis and take turns hosting each other. This time it was Klamath Promise Neighborhood’s, our newest promise neighborhoods grantee in CA, turn to host us. We learned SO much about how they have leveraged promise neighborhoods funding to increase math and English scores in just one year, how they are supporting CTE pathways, how they are centering culture and traditions to connect with, and help youth and their families, have more opportunities for economic mobility. Additionally, we were reminded of the importance of, and our connection to, Mother Earth. We are still processing all of our learnings but are hopeful for the work ahead. Next up, our CPNN colleagues will be visiting us in Hayward! We cannot wait to return all the hospitality, love, care, and nourishment that we were provided these last few days. #commUNITY #PromiseNeighborhoods #CAPromiseNeighborhoods #CPNN #cradletocareer #C2Ccoalition #CradletoCareerCA #STRONGkids #STRONGfamilies #STRONGcommunities #collectiveimpact #healing #relationshipbuilding #MissionPromise #KlamathPromise #CorningPromise #SanDiegoPromise #ChulaVistaPromise #HaywardPromise https://lnkd.in/gh_RJTy6
