𝗚𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀? What will it be—burgers, hot dogs, BBQ, or seafood? That depends on who you are, where you live, or how you like to celebrate those EXTRA days of responsible irresponsibility! Memorial Day signals the "official beach opening day." Or, since we live in Florida, it's the day the lifeguards are on duty full-time and the artsy beach shops, restaurants, and ice cream meccas open EARLIER. Grocery stores will be shopper chaos over BOGOs on hot dogs, buns, deli meat, and condiments.  Yes, I have more than one variety of mustard, mayo, ketchup, and hot sauce in the pantry/fridge at all times 𝗦𝗼, 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱? Shoppers will spend upwards of $7.7 billion this holiday preparing for family gatherings, and consumers will eat 818 million pounds of our favorite BBQ meats. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲? As analysts, we track these "season" to help our clients understand if their promotions are effective, if they have the right assortment with the "trendy flavors, colors, or ingredients," and if their shelf placement maximizes sales and minimizes out-of-stocks. Yes, Memorial Day week fast approaches, then July 4th, then Labor Day, and then summer and the season is over. So yesterday I listened as a friend described their first visit to Buc-ee’s, the traffic, crowds, clean restrooms, 100 gas pumps, beef jerky, fudge, BBQ and just pure excitement of the “World’s Largest Convenience Store”. Similar to Costco, Buc-ee’s is building an organization that is well paid, good benefits and rewarded by having upbeat associates. Reducing turnover and training expenses. What was your first job? As I hear the ubiquitous cacophony of the Burger King "WHOPPER-WHOPPER-WHOPPER" jingle (which lives in my brain, but not rent free. It pays a dear, dear price for it's existence) I can't help but think of my first job, which was at, of course, Burger King. I was 16. They started me on the conveyor belt broiler. I'd grab a stack full of frozen-together burger patties not dissimilar to what you'd find in the freezer section at your local grocer, pull them apart and individually place them on the moving metal grate, which would take the patties through the 9 Circles of Hell. They'd come to the end of their infernal flame-broiled journey cooked through-and-through where they plopped down on a tray to be taken by the burger "artisan" who'd construct the sandwich (are hamburgers even sandwiches??) per the order. After a week or so my manager, who must've seen my broiling vigor, decided to give me shot at handling the money exchange at the first drive thru window. Within 20 minutes I managed to give 5 people the wrong change. Apparently handling other people's money made me a nervous wretch. They promptly ripped me from my short-lived drive thru window career and back onto the lowly broiler conveyor belt. Later they upgraded me to burger "artisan", which I took to my advantage by making my own burgers and scurrying off to the utility closet to gnaw down on the meat-bun concoction like an orphaned Dickensian street boy/rat. Before my tenure was to end, they put me on the deep-fryer, which was a mistake on their end. Asking a mid-teen with a penitent for stupid to manage a row of extremely hot vats filled with sizzling oil is mismanagement. I won't go into it. Why am I writing this? No real reason but to share the beginnings of my employment history. We all have to start somewhere. I worked at BK for 1.5 years. I kinda want to put it on my Linkedin, ya know, for the giggles. #firstjobs #burgerking #whopper

Just some thoughts on a Friday afternoon. Marché has earned a reputation of excellence in every aspect of OCS and Pantry. Our Micro Markets are 💯 as well. The key difference? We ensure that everything we do is uniform and as close to perfect as it can be. I walked out of our Farmingdale warehouse today and witnessed one of our trucks getting washed. It was later in the day, and I noticed the driver's dedication in getting it ready for the next week. He emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness, mentioning that all other 14 trucks were spotless. He refused to go home until his truck matched the standard set by the rest. How did we achieve this level of success in just 3 years? It all comes down to dedication, hiring and training the best team members possible, and never losing sight of the fact that we are only as good as our last fill. Next time you spot your providers' trucks, take a moment to observe. Are they refrigerated? Do the route drivers have food safety training? At Marché, our clients know the names of their attendants and drivers, as we seamlessly integrate into their culture, understanding the significance of this relationship.
