I'm relocating to New York! It has been a long time in the planning: here's the story behind the move… We first started building our business in the US in 2014 and for the next 5 or so years travelled back and forth from the UK to deliver for our clients. Then in 2019, with a nice roster of 5 key accounts, which were all growing and a healthy pipeline, we realised that it was time to build a team on the ground. Fast forward another 5 years and we have an amazing team spread across North America and a significant proportion of our business is in the US and continues to grow. Over the years, Alistair Graham and I have met with and spoken to many owners of UK businesses, who have tried to “break” America but given up or failed. They generally say that the culture is too different, the time zones are unmanageable, or the market is too tough to break into. But we have succeeded in building an incredible business out there, with a stellar reputation as a truly global agency; in part due to our strong footprint in the US. It has required us to listen and learn, to evolve our culture and some of our working practices, but we have always pushed to maintain our identity and stay true to our values. So last year, on the 18th of May to be precise, I found myself on the field at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, telling this story to Steven Bartlett while I walked him around VeeCon. I asked him how he got Social Chain to work when they entered the US market. And he replied: “We were doing okay in the US, but it only really took off when I relocated to New York”. It was a lightbulb moment and the seed was planted. That weekend I flew to Austin for another event and I called my wife and asked her, “What do you think about moving to New York?" - she didn’t say much, but didn’t say no! By chance, the following week we had a long weekend in New York for our anniversary and we spent the whole time discussing the idea… We decided that, if we were still up for it by the end of the summer, we would do it. There are many reasons why we are making this move on a personal level: --> I have loved New York since I first visited in my 20’s but couldn't have dreamed that I would ever live there; --> It will be a great adventure for my wife and daughter; --> It will mean I am not away from them for 1-2 weeks a month; --> and honestly YOLO! From a business perspective, my move shows our commitment to the future of emc3 in the US as well as EMEA. We are all very excited about this move - but a little bit nervous too! We are going to throw ourselves headfirst into this adventure. So, from August, if anyone wants to discuss the events industry or sustainability, ask me for a favour, show me their favourite NY hangouts, explain how the subway works or just grab a coffee or a cocktail: I will be in Manhattan! Can't wait to see what this new chapter has in store...

🌟 Chicago: The Windy City of Endless Opportunities 🌟 I spent last weekend in Chicagoland attending a wedding. Another business breakfast of Knight Frank Poland is behind us! ☕ This time we talked about the transformation of offices in social, architectural and technological terms. We discussed the evolution in the real estate market and the expectations of employees who are increasingly eager to return to offices. We also considered a new trend that is becoming more and more important - "Neurodiversity in the office" - the question of how to create a space that is adapted to the diverse needs of each employee. Thank you very much for the meeting and interesting discussions!
