Owner at SJC Creative Member:National Press Club of SA, Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa, SAIIA, SAFREA
Media Communications is all Very Personal The secret to success with media communications is reliability and personal relationships. Editors, journalists, photographers, news anchors, reporters .... and advertising representatives are human: they like engagement, they like interest, they like interaction and most of all they like personable encounters with their public relations and marketing colleagues. Secondly, they like you even more if you get to know them and the content of their publications. Thirdly, your reliability is critical to their success in receiving (and sourcing) good content and on time. Showing interest in the publications that meet your target audience is one thing, absorbing the sector's breadth and technicalities is a plus, triple that by walking the talk is 100%! You'd be surprised as to how many human media peeps become friends and not just contacts on your phone when you take the time to build a relationship with them - no matter if they hop from concrete to plastics, from automation to infrastructure - follow them... track them down 😊 stay in touch! #mediacomms #industry #engineering

📢 Our team is recruiting a Media Relations and Communications Officer! Salary - 35k. 📢 The job was just recently held by Claire Penketh FRSA MBCS who I’m proud to say has moved into a senior policy engagement role in the team. So you can still benefit from her advice as well as the experience of Amanda Matheson and Daniel Aldridge MBCS 😊 You’ll ideally have some experience of writing and ‘selling in’ stories to journalists (we speak to national tech and education correspondents – as well as IT industry publications). You might be a current or recent journalist. You might be working in a PR role where you’re already a good writer creating press releases and evidence based pitches that have led to news coverage and stakeholder engagement. What will I be writing about and promoting? Anything from the diversity gap in tech, to policy changes in computing education, to technical insights on AI or quantum cryptography. We are the professional body for IT; this is a great role for someone who loves seeing stories about the transformational power of computing (and its challenges) appearing in external media. A key part of the job is translating policy insight and research reports into concise content - and that includes social media posts and briefings, as well as news stories. You’ll get to work with some of our brilliant expert members to ensure their knowledge of tech issues reaches the mainstream. The graphic below shows Dr Sam De Silva on Newsnight talking about the need to review how computer evidence is treated by the courts, in the wake of the Post Office scandal. #technology #PR #Media [If you’d like to be part of what we're doing, please see the link in the comments below ↘

Hire 👏 A 👏 Journalist 👏 If you want a candidate whose work is accurate and clean, hire a #journalist. If you want a candidate who thinks about how the #audience will interact with your #content, hire a journalist. Want presentation skills? #Communication skills? Ability to meet deadlines? Composure under pressure? Ability to thrive in a changing workplace? Project management? Journalists, especially ones who have worked at daily newspapers and small-market broadcast stations, are multifaceted, multitalented, omnichannel producers who can work under lean conditions, effectively engage with all kinds of #stakeholders , deliver on goals and thrive under adversity. Don't stress if they don't have the specific roles on their resumes you think match your job. They are experts at learning what they don't know quickly. #hiring #journalism #contentmarketing #editorial #communications #marketing #pr #publicrelations #brandedcontent #internalcommunications
