Abstract Communication between head-mounted wearable devices, such as hearing aids, is a potential HBC application. To clarify the HBC transmission mechanism between head-mounted wearable devices, this study analyzes the input impedance characteristics of the transceiver electrodes, transmission characteristics, and electric field distributions around and through a detailed head model. The investigation was performed via an electromagnetic field simulation. The signal frequency had less effect on the transmission characteristics and electric field distributions at 10, 20, and 30 MHz. However, the transmission mechanism between the head-mounted wearable devices was influenced by the number of electrodes in the transceiver. Moreover, the transmission characteristics between two-electrode transceivers were improved by impedance matching. Finally, the availability of the proposed system was evaluated from power consumption and human safety perspectives. Accessibility in Tech: Revolutionary Wearable Device Empowers Speech Recovery with 95% Accuracy! Discover the new innovation from UCLA engineers: a small, flexible wearable device that translates muscle movements of the larynx into audible speech. This assistive technology aims to assist individuals with vocal cord impairments, such as those recovering from laryngeal cancer surgeries or with pathological vocal cord conditions. Measuring just over one square inch and weighing around seven grams, this soft and stretchy device adheres to the neck, capturing laryngeal muscle activity with remarkable precision. Through machine learning technology, it translates these signals into audible speech with nearly 95% accuracy. Moving forward, the research team plans to expand the device's vocabulary through machine learning and to conduct trials with individuals with speech disorders.
