As wildfire risk grows in areas across the globe, what can we do to strengthen our homes and landscapes to defend against it? I am grateful to have learned more from Elizabeth Christy of USGBC California about Wildfire Defense and their new training program. If you missed this GreenHome Institute CEU webinar, you can rewatch it anytime here! Based on the attendee session survey results, people have learned about the importance of fire defense, including the challenges associated with exterior insulation systems for Passive and low-energy homes. They have gained knowledge about native plants, zones of safety around a structure, and the concept of Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). There is a heightened awareness of fire-resistant material choices and the significance of property maintenance in preventing home fires. People have expressed interest in learning more about defensible space around homes, the use of native plants for fire resistance, and the impact of landscaping on fire risk. Additionally, there is a desire for more information on alternative siding and roofing materials for resilience against wildfires. Would you please help us spread the word and share this? https://lnkd.in/gz7DvMMH

I would like to share a glimpse of an impactful documentary I recently participated in – "Built to Last: Buyer Beware." The documentary is a powerful call to action, spotlighting the urgent need for durable and safe housing in the face of escalating climate threats and challenges in the property insurance marketplace. "Built to Last: Buyer Beware." isn't just a documentary; it's a movement aimed at empowering people with the knowledge and tools to demand more than just a house, but a home that withstands the test of time and nature. It examines the property insurance and construction sectors, revealing critical flaws and urging significant reforms to protect our homes and communities. As someone deeply invested in advocating for policyholder rights and ensuring that insurance fulfills its promise of security, I found the documentary's exploration of the property insurance industry and its interactions with building standards particularly resonant. It underscores the necessity for transparency, accountability, and higher standards across the board. The mission is to ensure that every home is "Built to Last." It is time to demand more from our insurance companies, builders, and policymakers. It's time for action and time for a change. Watch the trailer and join the conversation. #BuiltToLast #InsuranceReform #SustainableHousing
