Protect yourself from head and neck cancer. This includes forms like oral, oropharyngeal, and nasopharyngeal cancer, among others. Risk factors include tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and HPV infection. Early symptoms can include a persistent sore throat, frequent headaches, and changes in your voice. Early detection is key, so don't ignore these signs. Quitting tobacco, reducing alcohol intake, and getting the HPV vaccine can reduce your risk considerably. #ClevelandClinic #HeadAndNeckCancer #CancerPrevention https://hubs.li/Q02qjzFz0

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted Infection (STI) and has been implicated in over 90 percent of cases of cervical cancer. Medical experts said persistent infection from HPV puts people at risk of cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus and throat in women, and cancers of the anus, mouth and penis in men. That there is incontrovertible evidence that HPV infection is a trigger factor for cervical cancer, adding that this means that in 90 percent of cases of cervical cancer, there is that presence of HPV virus infection. HPV causes cervical cancer by infecting cells in the cervix, changing them and causing them to replicate and multiply in an uncontrolled manner. This #CervicalCancerAwarenessMonth, South Texas Health System encourages #RGV residents to learn the warning signs and symptoms of the deadly disease, which include: ⚕️ Abnormal bleeding ⚕️ Unusual discharge ⚕️ Pain during intercourse ⚕️ Pain in the pelvic region ⚕️ Itching or burning sensation ⚕️ Low back and abdominal pain ⚕️ Frequent or urgent urination ⚕️ Abdominal bloating Regular screenings for cervical cancer have been shown to help decrease the incidence and mortality of the disease, so be sure you’re getting an annual Pap test to catch a possible HPV infection, which is linked to 99% of cases, before it reaches the cancerous stage.
