Check out our blog post "Addressing the Skilled Labor Shortage: Retaining and Attracting Talent in the Crane Industry" According to statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor, the construction sector has experienced a steadily increasing number of job openings and projects. However, the skilled labor force hasn't kept up with this rise in demand. A study conducted by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) revealed that nearly 80% of construction firms report difficulty in filling hourly craft positions, and over 50% anticipate a shortage of qualified workers in the future. To prepare for the future, retain our employees, and sustain projected growth, we must address this critical issue. In this blog we cover a few key points to consider. 👉 👉 https://lnkd.in/gNiXq_j7 #construction #constructiondevelopment #employeeretention #craneandrigging #craneindustry #craneaholics #blogpost

Construction Job Openings Surge Amid Labor Market Adjustments - What Does This Mean for The Industry? The construction industry saw a 41% YoY increase in job openings, with 413,000 positions unfilled per the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This upsurge reflects continued challenges to meet labor demands in the sector. Furthermore, upcoming regulatory changes pose additional difficulties for the labor market. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Department of Labor proposed to redefine the term "independent contractor" stating that workers who were previously classified as 'contractors' will now be considered 'employees'. Meaning, more general contractors would become liable for workers employed directly by subcontractors, driving labor costs through the roof. Construction labor costs represent a majority portion of total construction expenses on a project ranging anywhere between 50-60% of total costs depending on project and contract types. Therefore, as labor costs rise, project costs will rise. Despite potential headwinds, the outlook for construction remains positive. Our focus must turn to lean staffing, effective project planning, and efficient management if we want sustained growth in building America.
