Waste paper refers to discarded or post-consumer paper, a byproduct of industrial and consumer paper usage that contributes to environmental issues and deforestation. Waste paper management involves recycling used paper into new products, thereby conserving raw materials and reducing environmental impact. Key processes include collection, transportation, recycling, incineration, segregation, and processing, yielding products such as facial tissue, newspapers, paper towels, and more. Market growth is driven by stringent government regulations, heightened environmental awareness regarding waste paper, increased paper consumption, and technological advancements in recycling processes. Chemical depolymerization offers a recycling method for PET that can handle the varying purity and quality of some waste PET sources. This study explores process modeling for the three main methods of PET depolymerization: methanolysis, glycolysis, and hydrolysis. PET is found in many everyday use items such as textiles, packaging, and bottles. Current recycling of it is primarily done via the mechanical process, which is limited to clean recycled materials and is mostly applied to plastic bottles. Plastic bottles only make up about 30% of its end use, and the other 70% is not generally being considered for commercial recycling. #SustainabilityMatters https://lnkd.in/g3hRXz-c

Reminder for Plastic Recycling Experts Physical processes are reversible, do not change the composition of materials and no new substances are formed. This makes them an excellent choice for the #REUSEofPolymers from #PlasticWaste. In contrary chemical processes are non-reversible and new substances are formed (always!) #REUSE - Class #PhysicalRecycling (synonym: #MaterialRecycling): Polymer-to-Polymer 1. #MechanicalRecycling (needs mono-polymer input) 2. #DissolutionRecycling (synonym: #SolventbasedPurification) separates composites, imbedded additives and toxic impurities #DEPOLYMERIZE - Class #ChemicalRecycling (synonym: #FeedstockRecovery): Polymer-to-Feedstock 1. Solvolysis 2. Pyrolysis 3. Gasification Dissolution Recycling is an additional alternative to mechanical recycling, that significantly increases the options for #DesignforRecycling aimed at RE-USING more polymers from waste. It would be very helpful if so-called experts and consultants would stop the propaganda, that describes mechanical and chemical recycling as the only available options and incorrectly classify dissolution as chemical recycling. Those experts are only interested in their own business model and not in a #CircularEconomy. #plasticwaste #recycling #circulareconomy #plasticrecycling

Today is Global Recycling Day! ♻🌎 Check out our recent white paper on the Recyclability of Paper and Paperboard (WP-23-03) | NCASI, Inc., by Barry Malmberg, Ph.D., (https://lnkd.in/eNJSCXK2) to learn more about fiber longevity, fresh fiber requirements for a functioning fiber cycle, age distribution of products, average number of times fiber can be recycled, utilization rates, and market changes and challenges affecting recyclability for the US paper and paperboard sector. Paper and paperboard is the largest municipal solid waste (MSW) component recycled within the United States, and represents 67% of all MSW components recycled. The industry continues to strive to increase the collection and recycling of generated paper and paperboard and to increase the utilization rates of recovered fiber for the manufacture of paper and board products. The figure here shows the domestic fiber cycle with the important operational steps. This white paper aims to provide context and numerical results around each of the operational steps within the US fiber cycle, along with their influence on the recyclability of paper and paperboard within the US. #recycledfiber #recycledfibre #recyclability #utilizationrate #recoveryrate #sustainability #pulpandpaper #GlobalRecyclingDay

You’re probably not surprised to hear that there is much to learn when it comes to setting up a sustainable recycling process. At Genus we have direct experience of the paper manufacturing process and so we’re uniquely positioned to understand the components that feed into it. At the waste management site we consider questions such as: - Are there any contaminants or impurities that might affect quality? - What could this wastepaper be used for? - Who do we know that needs this kind of stock for their paper manufacturing? For our paper mill customers we think about: - Who do we know that can provide a particular paper grade? - What are the quantities that this waste producer can sustainably offer? - How quickly can the stock be turned around? We are the pivotal part of both sides of this equation and the key to answering these questions is relationships. Something we have boundless energy for creating, building and maintaining throughout the paper industry. If you are handling paper waste and are not sure what to do with it, please give us a call on 0161 762 1390. ___ We are the paper recycling specialists, taking care of recovered paper, saving you time and generating an extra income stream for your business. #paperrecycling #recyclingbroker #environment #responsibility
