We want to take this opportunity to thank all those who joined us for our in-person event in London yesterday focused on how we can apply a coaching approach to international development. We also thank Crown Agents for doing such a fabulous job in hosting this event and to Paul Wafer for chairing the session. We appreciated the thoughts shared by the panellists: Ben French, Sarah-Jane Marriott (ICF PCC), Mark Keen and Tina Maria Saeteraas Stoum and for the insightful comments and questions from those who joined us. Some of the highlights that stood out for me were: --> for an industry built on technical knowledge and an 'expert' driven approach, how do we encourage those who work in this sector to adopt a more humble approach where their expertise may be used in partnership with others? What's the shift that needs to happen in our own ways of thinking and working with others? --> even when more people are recognising that we need to move away from a linear and externally driven approach to programming, to build trusting relationships with partners, the funding process and operational side of things is still not set up to work in this more adaptive or innovative way. --> those working in this sector (particularly those with white privilege or other forms of privilege) need to be more aware of the power that they hold and look for people to share it with. This is particularly important as we look for ways to actively #decolonise the sector and #shiftthepower. My first IDA Convention was in Montreal, Canada. 💡 What are the benefits of IDA? Networking with like-minded individuals is top of mind for me, but over the years some of the people I have come to meet and share experiences with have become friends. Aside from that, I think there are some valuable partnerships and industry insight that IDA provides through the annual convention and its publications. 🌐 What are the biggest opportunities you see with IDA? As the world changes, I think IDA is reinventing itself to find its place in today’s world. Our businesses have changed and so have our methods and the channels we use to do business. IDA must be an industry leader regarding new technologies, emerging markets, environmental issues and highlight the strong women who are involved in this industry. 💪 What are the biggest challenges you face in the Aftermarket? I think that there are more machine manufacturers that there as ever been, and as the OEM’s are fighting for their market shares for equipment, they rely more and more on their parts and service departments to make up for their sales. We the independents in this industry must come together and unite to provide personalized service and provide quality parts to the end users. We bring value that OEM’s do not… we do it with passion! Bring it on! 🌍 After work, I enjoy… I love watching my son play baseball. I enjoy the intricate parts and strategies of the game. This is my happy place!
