Internship? Yes. Unpaid? Absolutely not. While I understand the reasoning behind unpaid internships, there is no reason to not pay a human for their labour. Yes, interns need to be trained but nonetheless, they contribute to output and productivity and should be rewarded for that just like anyone else. Furthermore, unpaid internships exclude people from low-income households. They cannot sustain themselves while doing the internship and there is no one to support them financially. Meaning that only people from well-off families can "afford" to do an unpaid internship. If we consider (unpaid) internships as a great first step in a career, doesn't that mean that it creates unfair career opportunities and increases the gap between high-income and low-income households? So not only would I not take any unpaid internship, I generally believe they should be forbidden.
