July is Disability Pride Month, have you heard of it? This month was introduced to celebrate and amplify disability activists, elevate disabled voices, and rally against ableism in all areas of society. It also seeks to change the way we think about and define disability, promoting that it is a natural part of human diversity to be proud of. So let’s celebrate and amplify disabled voices! Let’s call out ableism where we see it in society. And let’s reassess our perceptions of disability. https://lnkd.in/dUbcXYVh

Did you know? July is Disability Pride Month. While this is not recognized as a national holiday, July marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) legislation that opened the door to a more inclusive society. For some, Disability Pride Month is recognizing your disability and loving who you are for it; others celebrate the wins in learning to navigate their disability; or some show their support by just listening and elevating disabled voices. Take time this month to reflect, celebrate, and continue to uplift and include those with disabilities at work and in your community. #ADA #DisabilityPrideMonth #HRConsulting #DiversityAndInclusion

Did you know that July is #DisabilityPrideMonth? Disability Pride Day was first held in 1990 following the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (#ADA). 2015 marked the first year that Disability Pride Month was officially celebrated! The Americans with Disabilities Act includes individuals with #addiction and people in #recovery from substances. It's important to remember that not all disabilities are inherently "visual". Practice being more inclusive to people with disabilities by: 🧠 Accept people with disabilities AS THEY ARE: They don't need you to "fix" or change them. 🧠 Educate yourself: Do research or read books on how to best support the disabled community. 🧠 Amplify disabled voices: Share content directly from the disabled community. Start thought-provoking conversations with people from the disabled community; learning directly from the source will give you better empathy and understanding than anywhere else. There are so many ways to flex your ally muscles during Disability Pride Month! 🔗 below is the source for this post. Read through to learn about more ways to become a stronger #ally 💚 #ElevateRecoveryCenters #recoverycenter #glenburnie #maryland #info

July 26th is National Disability Independence Day, which celebrates the 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! The bill enacted sweeping legislation prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities and guaranteeing their civil rights to access transportation, employment, education, and other services. #ThanksToTheADA We believe full inclusion and participation in community life are attainable for everyone! Through our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, DP works to create spaces for marginalized communities to have their voices heard. We strive to ensure that equity is not just a word but an action allowing everyone to feel and know they truly belong. You can learn more about the ADA and its impact here: https://acl.gov/ada.

July is Disability Pride Month! If this is your first time hearing about it, you are definitely not alone. Disability Pride Month began in July of 1990 after the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) was passed. This prohibited discrimination against disabled Americans. The purpose of the Pride aspect can be defined like this: “To change the way people think about and define “disability,” to break down and end the internalized shame among people with Disabilities, and to promote the belief in society that Disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride. (Chicago’s Disability Pride Parade, 2013)” There are many ways to support Disability Pride, and one is by sharing the Disability Pride flag, shown below!
