🚗 The Netherlands has the third densest charging network per capita in Europe. But limited grid capacity make time of use tariffs a vital tool to add flexibility and ensure that increased electric vehicle (EV) charging doesn't overload the grid. 💹 On top of this, highly fluctuating prices mean that dynamic tariffs can unlock additional savings for drivers and make EVs even more cost-effective. I believe our networks are more than prepared to offer the right tariffs for #bidi EV buffer #V2H and #V2G. However I’m not so sure that consumers will rush in to V2G … but .. they will pile into V2H! All this talk about “value stacking” and making everything about dispatch (markets) is broadly speaking “system cost inflationary”. Consumers primarily want to save … they also don’t really “steal” from their neighbours & community. That’s not to say that consumers can’t, and shouldn’t be rewarded, but we have to avoid increasing system costs and/or unfairly rewarding businesses, or a better perspective not encourage them to take advantage of consumers. Unlike every digitalised industry rather than a focus on driving out costs, and delivering savings, the incumbents are still demanding “supply side only” control through dispatch, aggregators, and VPPs etc. Let me say this clearly - buffers (aka batteries) are going to transform energy into the “Consumers’ Grid” - and it won’t be a slow transition. FIFO buffers and UARTs (their buffers) transformed computing … buffers are going to do the same with electricity at 230V / 400V as it did with bits at 3V or 5V.

EV drivers can save up to £600 a year by switching to a dedicated EV tariff, according to our latest quarterly index. The Index highlights that there are now nine smart EV-specific tariffs, which offer an average rate of just 7.7p/kWh. In practical terms, this means an EV driver could travel 33 miles a day for five days a week at a cost of just £2.90 – a weekly commute for less than the average price of a cup of coffee. The Q3 Index - featured here in The Express - also found that EV drivers can save up to £1,300 a year by making the switch from an internal combustion engine vehicle to an EV.
