Recent research from Professor Rhonda Oliver and colleagues speaks to the need for education to be responsive to and reflective of the communities in which early learning centres and schools are based: "We need to be informed by the community whose children we are teaching. We need to adapt our curriculum and pedagogy to better suit the needs, but also the learning style and interests of the students. For remote and very remote Aboriginal students, in particular, there is a need to teach using a two-way approach, and also giving strong support to home language as a foundation for English language learning. Such practices promote a strong cultural identity, which in turn supports the wellbeing of students." Read the full report here: https://ow.ly/7Qcc50QFYOH 🧡

Attending French-language schools is important for the intergenerational transmission of the language and its preservation. Our new study examines enrolment in French-language elementary schools in the Maritime provinces—New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island—according to the distance between children’s homes and French- and English-language schools: https://lnkd.in/eYbYZFkT. 🏫 In 2021, about half of eligible children lived closer to a French-language elementary school than to an English-language school in the Maritime provinces.

We work very successfully with many primary schools and they all are different. We do not offer one single learning pathway on our platform because each school needs to cater for their pupils. What works in one schools does not always work in another. It will depend on the delivery model, the frequency and length of lesson and if there has been sustained teaching and learning of the foreign language before joining Language Angels. We have a wide range of units/materials and a team of qualified and experienced teachers dedicated to supporting schools when they first join us. We are here to ensure a foreign language is taught to the highest of standards at primary phase. Pupils make progress and staff understand what they are teaching and why. Ensuring staff are not stressed and overloaded. Learning a foreign language at primary phase should be the most beautiful, exciting and rewarding learning experience for both the staff member and their pupils. For many of the primary schools we support, this is indeed the case. Read our testimonials. All with a staff name, a school name and a location. https://lnkd.in/e4QeDwp4
