Did you know that in 1983 ISBM launched its first course offering at Penn State titled, “Value and Pricing Strategy” by Dr. Irv Gross? And, in that same year, ISBM is recognized by Penn State’s VP of Research as an “Area of Excellence”. And here we are in 2024 still teaching these same, timeless principles!

New state funding in Arizona will help reduce the cost of dual enrollment courses and we couldn't be more excited! Research from Helios Education Foundation shows that students who participate in dual enrollment are more than twice as likely to attend college. They’re also more likely to stay enrolled, earn a higher GPA, and complete a degree. Watch their explainer video below and learn more here: https://bit.ly/3QeekWj

Join us at the M*A*T*H Colloquium! The Magic of Steiner Triple Systems presented by Guillermo Alesandroni, of CSU Chico! Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 4:00 PM Join us in person in Darwin Hall 103 or virtually using this link: bit.ly/FA23_math_talks Coffee! Cookies! Networking! All are welcome! Please email [email protected] for more information. [email protected] | math.sonoma.edu | (707)664-2368 Steiner triple systems (STSs) are a charming combinatorial topic consisting of points and sets of points that display a certain symmetry. A distinctive mark of STSs is the fact that their study feels like playing a game: a successful completion to the game generates an STS and, conversely, an STS provides a winning strategy to the game. In this talk, we introduce STSs as a combinatorial game and then we give a tour through the main concepts and results in this area. Finally, we discuss some research projects that are within reach of students who may lack combinatorial expertise but have a surplus of curiosity and enthusiasm. Undergraduate students are especially encouraged to attend. In fact, this talk has been designed for them.
