Climate action could benefit from the #Barbie movie’s marketing team’s approach (and their budget.) The marketing budget for the Barbie movie was a whopping $150 million dollars. And promos for the nostalgic flick were EVERYWHERE. Three weeks since Barbie was released in theatres and it has made an even more astounding $1.03 billion. Today's Energy Splendor: Nevada Rangers Show How to Clear Climate Lunatics Blocking a Highway [Follow me on Twitter/X at @EnergyAbsurdity] Taking a break from Energy Absurdities this morning to bring you a moment of clear Energy Splendor instead. In case you missed it, the video below went viral across social media on Monday. It shows a group of Nevada Tribal Rangers clearing a pack of climate alarmist nutjobs from the highway that leads to the annual Burning Man Festival. The protesters had blocked the highway with a trailer and set of signs, most of which don’t relate to climate at all, but instead call for an end to capitalism, which is the real ultimate goal of what is without doubt a global communist/fascist movement. This video gives me great joy since it shows the right way to deal with protests like this one, which is to end them with violent force while keeping the violence within the letter of the law. My favorite part is listening to the protesters squeal that “we’re environmentalists!” and "we're peaceful protesters!" as if that status means they have the right to break the law with impunity. First day of DECLARE EMERGENCY’s week of actions in DC was safely kicked off yesterday near the White House to pressure Joe Biden to declare an actual official state of climate emergency (not just practically speaking) and use all his executive powers to face the climate catastrophe in ways that are fair and just. If enough of us (who are tired of waiting for government and newsmedia to behave responsibly and appropriately to simple truths) come together in nonviolent civil disobedience then who knows. Because healthier, more just and truly democratically decided local, regional and national economies are not only possible but have been designed and are waiting for us. We first have to talk sense into the financial elites who got us into this mess by thinking there are short cuts. But there are no short cuts in nature and we are nature. Before last weekend, I had never attended a climate protest. But, unprecedented times call for unprecedented actions. I went to the People's Blockade because I believe in the power of social movements to create change, and I see a role for peaceful civil disobedience. The energy on the beach on Sunday was incredible. From youth strikers to elderlies to coal miners, everyone was united around a relatively simple ask to the governement ; no new coal. It was a surreal to go for a dip on the beach opposite to where the blockade was taking place, only to see the coal ships on the horizon, patiently waiting for the protest to end to resume operations. We've been told 500,000 tonnes of coal were prevented from leaving the port. It's nothing compared to the 150 millions tonnes that transit every year through what is the largest coal port in the world. In the climate space we often talk about tipping points - when small changes become significant enough to cause larger, irreversible changes and lead to cascading effects. But social tipping points exist too, and they are closer than we think. How many people will show up next year on that beach? How many people risking arresting will it take for the government to listen to the science? #climatechange #climateaction #climatecrisis
