Renewable Hydrogen Coalition CEOs Urge New EU Leaders for Immediate Actions to Scale UP Renewable Hydrogen Tomorrow, Member States will meet to appoint the next President of the European Commission, to be confirmed by the newly elected European Parliament. With its European #GreenDeal, the current Commission played a crucial role in supporting the nascent renewable hydrogen industry, bringing much needed regulatory certainty and strong targets for its uptake in hard-to-electrify sectors. However, the journey is far from over. The cost of renewable hydrogen is still too high compared to incumbents, and the European electrolyser industry faces unfair competition from other global powers, threatening its ability to thrive in Europe. The new European Parliament and the next Commission President should stay the course and focus on delivering the Green Deal as Europe's growth strategy, with international competitiveness of the European industry at its core. This is why CEOs of leading European companies have united to urge policymakers to account the following as priorities: 1️⃣ Set strong EU funding to massively scale up renewable hydrogen production and bring its cost down. 2️⃣ Adopt a robust European industrial strategy to build a competitive and resilient value chain in Europe as a matter of strategic industrial autonomy and security. Stronger together!! Let us scale hydrogen now so that we can become net zero asap

“Green hydrogen has a very important role to play in the decarbonisation of our economies.” This is the statement I make at the beginning of the video by the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition to emphasise that green hydrogen is a key factor in the energy transition. Not only that, it is also a promising market for technology made in Europe. The current European Commission has supported the renewable hydrogen industry with its Green Deal, which was a significant step forward. However, this journey is far from over, and the new Commission needs to stay the course in the next legislative period and strengthen the industry. This can be addressed by prioritising the following points: ▪️ Providing strong EU funding to massively scale up renewable hydrogen production and bring its cost down. ▪️ Adopting a robust European industrial strategy to build a competitive and resilient value chain in Europe as a matter of strategic industrial autonomy and security. “We need you to act now” are my words to the policymakers at the end of the video, as I am certain that green hydrogen technology from Europe has a bright future, provided the right framework is set up.

Clean Hydrogen Boom Ahead! 🚀 The world is set to witness a massive surge in clean hydrogen projects, doubling production to an extra 48GW by 2028, according to Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP's research. This isn't just a prediction; it's happening now! Since 2021, tracked production projects have surged by nearly 50%. 📈 Europe leads the charge, with Germany at the forefront, hosting 25 operational projects. Meanwhile, the US, UK, and Japan each have seven projects in the pipeline. Globally, 326 clean hydrogen projects are underway, including green and blue hydrogen initiatives. 💥💥Incredibly exciting news for the European Hydrogen space💥💥 🌍🔋 The European Commission has given the green light to a €350 million German initiative aimed at bolstering renewable hydrogen production through the European Hydrogen Bank’s ‘Auctions-as-a-Service’ tool. According to the Commission, the German initiative aligns with the goals of the REPowerEU Plan and the European Green Deal Industrial Plan, further slashing imports of Russian fossil fuels and accelerating the green transition. 🌱🚀 Assessed under EU State aid rules, the scheme has been deemed: 👉 Necessary and apt for fostering renewable hydrogen production, thus aiding the decarbonization of industrial, transport, and/or energy sectors. 👉Providing an incentive, as beneficiaries wouldn't undertake relevant investments without public backing. 👉Equipped with sufficient safeguards to mitigate its impact on EU competition and trade. 👉Expected to yield positive environmental outcomes, in line with the European Green Deal, outweighing potential negative competition distortions. The approved initiative will back the construction of up to 90 MW of electrolysis capacity, stimulating the production of approximately 75,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen, contributing to Germany's aim of reaching at least 10 GW of domestic electrolysis capacity by 2030. This aligns with the EU's goal of achieving a minimum of 42.5% renewable energy production by 2030, with a target of 45%. 🌿💧 Support under the German scheme will be accessible to companies planning new electrolyzer construction in Germany. It will be in the form of a direct grant per kilogram of renewable hydrogen produced, lasting up to ten years. Beneficiaries must demonstrate compliance with EU criteria for the production of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs). Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President responsible for competition policy, commented: “This €350 million scheme marks a significant stride in advancing renewable hydrogen development. It will bolster the most cost-effective projects in Germany, reducing costs for taxpayers and mitigating potential competition distortions. Is it a good idea to invest in green hydrogen? 💧 The green hydrogen market is booming. All eyes are on it because of its significant advantages in addressing the major challenge of climate change. 🌱 The EU wants to reach 40 GW of electrolysers and 20 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030 to achieve energy independence. The IPCEI Hy2use project is providing €5 billion for 35 projects in 13 countries. But investment in green hydrogen has risks. The technologies are expensive and there is a lack of infrastructure.
