❓ Do you partner with local businesses? ✍ A study published in the Journal of Business Ethics found that partnerships between nonprofits and businesses led to a 50% ⬆ increase in donations compared to standalone efforts. ⚡ Research indicates that local businesses supporting community initiatives can increase local charitable contributions by up to 30%, highlighting the importance of community ties. Who wants their nonprofit to be a jack of all trades but a master of none? Nobody, right? Yet I see many small nonprofits spread themselves thin by having five, ten, or even more programs. Each program they add creates additional complexity while making it harder for them to do any of those programs with excellence. What if we tried a little more of the Five Guys approach? Five Guys is a hamburger chain where you can consistently get a very good burger and fries. They have nothing against seafood, tacos, pizza, chicken, or salads; they just don't do those foods so that they can focus on doing one thing consistently with excellence.
